it's also hilarious how they're marketing this to adults, it's as if they're trying to promote autism

Pokemon does have lots of adult fans.
Nostalgia, m8. It's a powerful thing.

Considering Pokemon started 20 years ago, they have to market to adults. Also, since it involves traveling around and using an expensive phone, instead of sitting it home playing Pokemon on a toy, they have to market to adults. It's actually a brilliant marketing strategy. The game will be free to play, but will hame in game microtransactions, so they need adults with credit cards to play it. They'll still have kids playing Pokemon X and Y on the Nintendo DS. It's a good way to capture the whole market.

yeah, it started 20 years ago and was also for kids back then
> implying parents don't buy kids things > implying parents can't travel around with their kids > implying this game will be considered socially acceptable for adults > implying it wont only be played by 12 year olds in a secluded area of their school field to avoid getting bullied for it
also
> free to play
confirmed shit then

7 million people played Ingress, and that wasn't even a franchise. This is going to basically be Ingress + Pokemon and it's going to phenomenally successful.

I've become uninterested in Pokemon recently. I didn't like Alpha Sapphire that much and this new Pokemon game breaks away from Nintendo's tradition of keeping their games on their consoles. Guess I'm going to be hipster and play Pokemon Emerald.

For some reason, the Queen song came into my head before the Pokemon theme song.

but that's just it, it's its own franchise, everyone knows pokemon is a kids game and will think adults are just pathetic for playing it

People who play any video games don't give a shit about what people think about them for playing games, let alone what games they play. You're seriously underestimating the nostalgia factor. I know adults who bought a Nintendo DS just to play Pokémon. I see adults all over my Facebook feed who are excited about this. It's trending on Twitter and other social networks. This is a great way for Nintendo to hang onto that older market while still getting new young people into the game.
It's also brilliant because Nintendo has been focusing less on console play and more on the mobile market. The Wii U can function without a TV, and they've got the DS, but a lot of people are relying on their phones for mobile gaming and don't like the idea of buying another mobile device just to play games. This gives Nintendo a chance to break into this aspect of the mobile gaming market. They're testing the water. If this game is successful, they may put out a lot more games on Android and iOS. If successful, I wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration of the Nintendo DS will be a Nintendo phone. They're thinking ahead. You're not.

Somethings gotta give, I got too many damn devices. Technology is in a weird fractured phase atm, but it's not gonna stay that way. Our cell phones are getting plenty powerful enough, they can do so much more. As the gap between our desktops, cell phones, and consoles continues to shrink we'll likely see all kinds of competition and certainly some cool innovations.
