i played from burning crusade to cataclysm, it bored me so much i never even bothered to get a character to max level

you played through 3 expansions and didn't hit max level? what did you do, just re-roll? or play through half an expansion and quit before you hit the cap? i mean eventually you'd pick it up and have to finish before continuing on to the new content.
the repetitive stuff didn't really start until level cap anyway. how did you play?
i usually just did the content and then skipped the raids and end-game and waited to play the next expansion with new content. i did try raiding in WotLK but it got old after 6 months. real old. but i'd come back for the leveling and story content.
cataclysm sucked for story, imo, but raiding was a snap. i'd say the game is now very far from its roots, this last expansion was fun but ultimately the whole 1-100 leveling experience is a shadow of vanilla glory. it's a cake walk and a solo one at that.
i have other opinions, but mostly i'm one of those "back in MY day wow was good" people.

the game should have died a long time ago if you ask me, it seemed like it would have been a "flash in the pan" sort of thing, it's also dated as fuck, especially in the graphics department, people just got addicted i suppose
i ignored it when it first came out because i was still into console games, it was my brother who tried to get me into it, i didn't play often because i hated the grindiness, especially in the earlier days, the most fun part of the game for me was checking out different classes and just levelling 1-10

addicted? it was genuinely fun. i can see how some people would prefer other games, but to say people have to be addicted to play it is laughable.
you obviously never got into the social aspect which was 90% of what early wow was. it was always boring solo. but to each their own.
i will agree it's dated, but each expansion improved visual quality. imo the reason wiw is dying now is becuase they moved away from their core multiplayer gamplay and made it more easy to solo.
not to mention i think people are just getting bored with the lore and the world. so much gets shoehorned in for expansions it's all convoluted now. i doubt i'll play the next one even for the story.

i got the social aspect, i usually played with my brother and his friends, they would basically boost me through dungeons and i would sit back and talk shit, which was sort of hilarious
nowadays my brother is still into it as ever, i don't understand how a game like that could hold a person's interest for so long
