I ran a troubleshooter Microsoft has for the reason of why the Win10 icon wasn't in the sys trap.
Turns out that I was missing an update which I can apparently download now.
But now I am confused on rather or not I should get the x64 version or not when my system type says that it's a 32-bit operating system with a x64 based processor.
This is for a tablet btw.

And YES 64 Bit OS uses more hard drive - Real issue is the 64-bit will use a LOT more of your RAM. And if you only have 4GB of RAM you will end up with a slower machine.
Cathy what I do not get is - If you are running Android why do you want Win 10? How much do you really use the Win OS? Just because the upgrade is free is not really a good reason to download it.

If you start your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files, but your computer isn't capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll see a Windows Boot Manager error. You'll need to use a 32-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files instead.

i still find it unsettling that its there by default
you have to opt out of having advertisers invade your very desktop. the implicit assumption is that you want it.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to take from this comment. I think you said it to try to demonstrate that this practice is somewhat normal and not a big deal, yet that just makes me more uneasy about it. I don't want that sort of thing to become normal. The advertisers are getting too damn close.

i am saying that simply the opt-out advertising stuff doesn't seem like a good reason to not upgrade to win10, especially if you have an android phone which does the same thing.

I don't have an Android phone currently. I had until just recently, but I guess it was older because it didn't do that.
I understand I might be a bit "odd" for being this bothered by it, but I'm quite uncomfortable with big corporations and advertisers pushing advertisements that far into people's lives. I'm uncomfortable with it becoming normal for advertisers to discreetly collect data about you computer or phone usage and then give you targeted ads right in the personal space of the desktop or home screen.
But honestly, that's not the whole reason I'm not upgrading. The main reason is probably that I am comfortable with Windows 7 and a bit lazy about this sort of stuff. The desktop advertisements and data spying just nudge that into outright rejection of upgrading.

I agree.

That's not what happens. In the case of Win 10, there are a few apps pre-installed which may or may not be sponsored. I think Twitter, Flipboard, Candy Crush, Groove Music and maybe some others. Then there is an app titled Get Office which just links to a page where you can purhcase Office. The advertising ID in Windows is just for apps. It's essentially the same as the advertising ID in Google products.
Most of the 'spying' stuff seems to be in Cortana which is opt-in. It's the same kinda info they use for Google Now. And there is a setting which I think is on by default which 'sends Microsoft info about how you write to help them improve typing in the future' which I have no idea what it does.
Oh and it does sync desktop settings and things like it does in 8 if you connect a MS account which it really wants you to.
