Primer. It's a movie about time travel and the consequences it can have.

These guys are indepentant scientists and are working on some machine in their garage. It starts having strange effects and they figure out after a while that they figured out time travel. It's really well done and the characters are really believeable with great dialogue.

Its confusing on the first watch, but each time you watch it again you pick up new things.
you could easily watch it three times in a row just because you are so confused.

Primer is an excellent conceptual sci-fi, I'll second that.

Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and Lady Vengeance are all delicious, very psychologically intense. The violence in these 3 is hard-fucking-core, and awesome. Highly recommended.

Have you seen Night Watch? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/ It's definitely dark, supernatural, and ever so slightly campy. Similar to Constantine (which is also pretty good) what with the ongoing war between good and evil, etc.

Paranormal Activity is pretty damn spooky for how low-budget it is, but neither of the main characters are very likeable. It's shot in that amateur/"home movie" style that's come into vogue recently.

In another vein of strange, have you seen many of Todd Solondz's movies? Welcome to the Dollhouse, Happiness, and Palindromes are all dark, disturbing, and agonizingly funny in the kind of awkward way that make me wonder why *more* people don't snap and go clocktower.

I've seen Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness.
I made some of my friends and even my family watch then, and it's hilarious to sit in the room and watch them freak out and then they are like "why did you make me watch that?". I reccomend those movies if you want to see some fucked up shit. They're funny, too!

Well, personally i'm a huge fan of Jim Jarmusch. Some of his movies like "Coffee and Cigarettes" are paced really slowly and for a lot of people that is a turn off. At the very least check out "Broken Flowers" and "Mystery Train". Those are my two favorites.
