Topic: moving to a new country and i am SO SO SCARED!?

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #44,737

I don't care that my danish is a little rusty. What i do care and worry about is finding a job. Its not just that i am work shy, its also that i have social anxiety and so
becoming efficient in any work takes a long as time for me, far more then the average slob. Its hard to think straight and work straight when you think you are dying and shitting yourself on a damn stage.

Social anxiety isn't permananent or inherent, you simply have to decide to defeat it and work towards it

You speak the truth. This is a positive input, i think that as soon as possible when i land, my #1 priority is to meet a psychiatrist and get xanax. THat will make everything so much easier.

Why does the topic headline end with a question mark, when it is not, in fact, a question? Thanks.

Are you sure cause it didn't work for me, addressing it and seeking help made it worse. It made me so much more aware of how its hopeless and never going away.

Edit: oh wait, I did learn that I don't need to socialize and have become a shut-in. So, it does help you learn ways to cope.

Yeah okay so you're complaining that you couldn't fix it and in the same post admit that you just shut yourself away and don't try to expose yourself to the thing you fear

No shit you can't do it, avoidance doesn't solve anything

No, I realized that was the solution when all else failed.

One note, I asked my doctor for drugs specifically for anxiety and he was like "you won't need those." So, I didn't try getting addicted to benzos.

Yes, for over a year, once a week.

My employer didnt want to pay for more than 21 sessions cause apparently that's all it should take. They passed a law around that time that made them offer the same amount of visits as a medical plan for mental plans, so I was covered luckily. Good timing cause that shits expensive. Still cost me hundreds in just copays.

Pretty much everything is on a bell curve. There are going to be people on the shit end just like there's people on the good end. Not everyone can be helped. Some anxiety is inherent. I do not connect with people. I can't even talk to people anymore (I have isolated myself outside work for almost three years now, so perhaps it's from a lack of talking I can no longer do it? I prefer not to anyway. I probably have some level of schizoid affective disorder (self diagnosis). I just do not do well with people or groups.

I've been on a few medications and none helped my situation, none were specifically for anxiety. I've got a lot of issues.

> Can we still call you Iceland guy? Or will we have to call you Denmark guy?

This is an important question. Will calling him Iceland guy comfort him by keeping things normal and remind him of his homeland, or will it constantly remind him of how he is a foreigner in a foreign land? Will calling him Denmark guy pressure him into feeling like he should belong even if he feels like he doesn't, or will it help him adapt? I think we should suggest he changes, but only when he feels it is empowering to him rather than reminding him of a frightening change in his life.

Or we could call him transDenmark guy, because Minichan
