Topic: Playing with the idea of setting up a treadmill desk for my home office

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #44,700

I'm assuming none of you lazy fucks have any experience with something like this, but it can't hurt to ask. These things are supposedly all the rage right now, and typing while walking doesn't seem too difficult. One downside is that I currently do not yet have an adjustable/standing desk, so on top of the ~$1k for the treadmill I'd have to get one of those.

Thoughts??

@OP
Have you considered just going outside?

No.

@previous (C)
I don't get paid for doing that. My job requires me to work at a computer all day, so might as well make that a bit healthier.

Another option is a desk bike. This actually sounds a bit nicer.

How about a desk barbell? Would give your arms a great workout.

> $1k

Why would you need an expensive treadmill if all your doing is walking at a slow pace?

Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx replied with this 11 years ago, 23 seconds later, 11 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #590,215

@590,213 (A)
You could maybe type between lifts. But yeah, that could get annoying. Nevermind, then.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 39 seconds later, 12 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #590,216

@590,214 (dw)
That's exactly why you need a more expensive one. The cheaper treadmill motors will burn out when you use them for many hours on low speeds, they're not made for it.

Then i recommend just going outside

Maybe you can get one of those chair bicycle things for your legs.

The idea is to make sitting for ~8 hours a day (while doing my job) healthier. Going outside during that is not an option.

I feel like it wouldn't be pleasant doing that from a regular chair. I'm not sure, though. It is worth considering since it's a bit cheaper.

I think this idea has multiple merits. Info says its Cardio
https://www.k-tor.com/pedal-powered-generator/
It is smaller and lighter than an exercise bike. It provides similar cardio benefits. And it generates electricity.

You could bring in batteries to charge every day - take batteries home and use to power up home stuff. Help your heart and cut your power bill. Heavy lead acid batteries also have benefits as you carry in and out every day home/work
