Topic: I just cannot fucking wake up early. Anyone have this problem?

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #44,563

Even if I go to bed early, sober, and get many hours of sweet, uninterrupted sleep, I still cannot wake up early. When morning comes, I feel like I have been drugged: I am that drowsy, groggy, and unable to stir. I sleep until noon on days off. When I have to wake up at 6 to go to work, I do it so I will keep my job, but I feel like I am dying. I feel horrible. I cannot ever feel rested and refreshed and wake up early. What can I do?

Nothing. If you practice jumping immediately out of bed when the alarm goes off and keep at it, it will become habit, unfortunately, you need to make it a habit for it to be easier.

Yes, you could try meth. That will wake you right up.

I would like to find a solution without drugs.

Quit sleeping in so late on your days off. Eventually you should wake up feeling fine, but you're gonna have to be consistent and give it time.

I jump out of bed easily once I open my eyes, but I don't feel awake until I have the first bite of breakfast.

I just have to eat breakfast as soon as I'm on my feet, no matter if I woke up at 5 AM or 9 PM... all other meals are optional if I had awesome breakfast.

So yeah, try to eat perhaps.

Suffer through it like everyone else on the planet earth. Also drink caffeine if you're a pussy.

Take sick leave for one week. Then go to bed two hours later every day until you've kicked your body clock back into normal diurnal rhythm. Take a melatonin supplement before you sleep. The transition will be hell, but it will be over in a week.

I found it easier once I stopped sleeping later on days off or weekends. Once you're really in the routine of getting up early, it'll feel a little more natural. You'll still have the odd day where you feel groggy and crappy, but not as often as before. At least that's my experience.

Or just set multiple, very loud alarms that jolt you awake suddenly. That helps.
