No. It's an absolutely awful game with a retarded premise and basically no gameplay. No strategy or skill is involved, at least nothing besides reaction times. It's an absolute cancer and the only reason it's getting any attention whatsoever is because the game is simple enough for brain dead 5 years olds to play and get scared by.

Obviously. It's been consistently popular, so it just be doing certain things very well to appeal to people as much as it has.
It's also getting a movie soon, which I think is pretty cool. It's using real animatronics, too.

It's not just going to be a straight recreation of the games but as a movie, it's being adapted for the medium. But they're going to ensure it fits in with the game's story and general atmosphere.

Well, it's really just a way to tie the ability keep yourself safe to a depletable resource. I agree it doesn't make sense, but in the grand scheme of video games (which commonly include similarly impossible feats like double jumping or instantly healing yourself by walking over a med-kit), it's not all that bad.
The last three games didn't use doors that needed electricity to stay shut, anyway, so it's not really a complaint that applies to the majority of the series.

It's a video game: gameplay matters and it basically has none. And it's being sold for money! The horrible shitty quality of this game makes me think back to early 2000s when free flash games were all the rage. This would have been one of those, and it's laughable people are willing to pay money for something like that.

I didn't say it wasn't, I said that FNaF's more simplistic gameplay wasn't a detriment to its quality.
On the contrary, it's a strength. The game is easy to play but challenging to master, and the first person viewpoint served to better immerse you into things.
@588,040 (C)
No, I think you are conflating complexity with quality. Yeah the games are relatively simple, but there's more to them than that. They're challenging, and have a fairly compelling story to uncover if one pays attention.
I should also note, it isn't actually being sold for much money as games go. Compare the prices to a modern triple A game. Bit of a difference, right? And if people are willing to pay for the games, then why shouldn't the developer charge for them, exactly? He did put time and effort into making them (I know you'll deny this, but it's true).

Conversely, many people tried the game and got hooked on it. Some (such as myself) don't play it, but still find it appealing. I am still unsure you are able to empathise with the many others who find the game compelling rather than just go with your own perception. Like, I'm not particularly interested 50 Shades of Grey, but I think I get why many people might find appeal in it.
Okay, so in regards to linerider, I'm not sure it's a valid comparison. You could probably find lots of fairly similar games in the iOS or Android stores, all being charged for. It's entirely up to the dev whether the content is charged for, there is no "obligation" to make it free if it's simple. If it's a mistake to charge for a game, then the sales will probably reflect that. But judging from the sales of FNaF, charging for it was a great idea and people are willing to pay for it.

- A game shouldn't be charged for if its gameplay doesn't meet some vague level of complexity
- Anyone who enjoys FNaF is immature or a retard
- FNaF's success isn't legitimate because of the first two points, so its commercial and cultural success counts for nothing at all
- People who are so unfamiliar with a game that they didn't know it had gotten three sequels are completely qualified to judge the worth of the series

- challenging gameplay, with a mode called 20/20 that takes extreme skill to beat

@previous (C)
Yeah, it is challenging. You've got to keep track of several animatronics, and need quick reactions and good planning to stand a chance.
As for the plot, m8, you really shouldn't cast judgement without knowing what's going on:
In a nutshell, the animatronics are attacking because they're haunted by the spirits of some kids who were murdered by an employee at the pizzeria. And then you have to survive against the murderer (now trapped in an animatronic) in the third game. Also, it's implied that the fourth game is actually a nightmare while your character is in hospital after being bitten by an animatronic.
The smart thing is that very little of this is said outright. You need to pay close attention to the environment and the minigames to get the full story. This draws the player in, and has inspired a massive collaborative effort by the fandom to figure things out.
Anonymous C replied with this 11 years ago, 2 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^][v]#588,188
@previous (killer lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx)
Alternative interpretation: There wasn't much of a plot to begin with. The game caught on (somehow) and the author saw dem $$$$ signals. He started cranking out more rehashed versions of the same game, creating the "plot" the fans had been speculating about.

And you, as somebody who briefly played the first game before stopping, are clearly qualified to talk about the nature of the plot.
It was still dark and subtle in the first game. Minimal, admittedly, but it's kept to the same basic plot since the first one. The developer didn't just conjure up a plot once the first game became a hit.
