to be fair they probably both use a similar number of polygons. it's the textures that're different is all. and with the modding API you can script minecraft as much as second life. the biggest difference is that the minecraft worlds are "limited persistence" since they require willing hosts and the second life game doesn't have destruction as a game mechanic. so you can't say they are superior to one another, just highly similar despite a few core design decisions.
minecraft happens to be voxel based and might technically be a more sophisticated client, but second life has the more robust server netcode giving you a superior online experience. so it's really hard to directly even compare how the games are designed. all you can really say is that neither one of them looks like this.
