so far so good. no major problems. also games seem to work better. it's nice! the UI is close enough to 7 that it's still usable without having to figure where the fuck everything went. i guess i'm okay with it, but really only because directX 12 stuff seems to be having a good impact on things.

Get Start10 (or Start8 because it also works) for a more traditional Windows 7-style Start Menu. I hate sleaze-bag shit like that. I hope I don't later find out they still track you even if you select "no" to all options. It's seems like that's the entire point of windows 10, and I don't trust sleaze-bags.

I had 8, and the GUI was fine. What you smoking? It took maybe an extra click to get to programs. I never found it an issue. I had all my most used programs, or are they called "apps" now??, on my desktop. Steam, lol, Firefox, EQ emulator, calculator. Everything I needed.

As the biggest MS fanboy to ever post on Minichan... I just upgraded to Linux Mint and installed Windows 10 in a virtual machine.
Works like a charm for everything I need work related, but for browsing and personal stuff, I'll use Linux from now.
Too many privacy issues with Windows 10, and so much data sent to MS even after you disable telemetry on Windows 10 Enterprise.
We will see if Nadella gets back to his senses and things change for the better, but I doubt, specially after Win 7 and 8 recieved the telemetry sending update.

it just lets lower end hardware run better. the biggest gains will be seen on medium end builds. high end builds aren't seeing big improvements becuase they are already so high end software can't keep up. but now with more overhead games will grow in complexity.
but people with low-mid tier systems will see the most benefit as i understand it. mostly it lets games use more CPU cores so games with lots of physics will benefit more than others as well. but also we won't see the real benefits until games are made for dx12 and use the extra overhead. it's not required now, but in a year you'll probably be needing dx12 to keep up with newer games.

I just saw a video and apparently there is an option in Windows 10 to revert back to Windows 7 for a month after you update.
I'm just scared I'd select a wipe completely and lose everything even if I read everything carefully. :-(

alright, the verdict is i like windows 10. it's got some nice features so far. I messed with cortana, the whole process makes you sync up an email account and sign in to microsoft and it's just not worth it. Cortana is kind of cool, but even with active listening and all that it's not a tool to work with. Like you can say, "hey cortana, [question]" and it'll do a bing search. it's practically useless, merely slightly convenient to say a random question. The more interesting part is that you can use it to open applications, so you can say, "hey cortana, [play music] or [open Grand Theft Auto 5]" and it will open those applications. But once you've done your search, or opened your music or game you can't then say, "Hey Cortana, [Stop music] or [End playback] or [close application] or [open first search result]." nothing like that at all. So it leaves a lot to be desired so far. I haven't messed with its scheduler and all of that, probably its "made for features" will work okay, but just using as an assistant to do general stuff it fails really hard at being useful. so far. i tried my damnedest to make it open up minichan.org but all it would do is search for minichan.org and then be useless.
i can see how they are wanting to incorporate it, but it's really far from primetime imho.

that being said, i like the overall changes. The start menu is much better. it's actually got shit on the right click menu that's useful, task manager, device manager, control panel all on the same menu. it's nice. There's also a feature for syncing mobile devices and it syncs with android just fine. iOS stuff too. and it's all been made very accessible and might be useful. idk if that's all old hat for win 8 folks, but it's nice to see that they are working to play nice with android

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as becky, is in fact, cat hair/becky, or as I've recently taken to calling it, cat hair plus becky. Becky is not a moderating system unto herself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning cat hair system made useful by the cat hair corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the cat hair system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of cat hair which is widely used today is often called becky, and many of MCs users are not aware that she is basically the cat hair system, developed by the Cat Hair Project.
There really is a becky, and these people are using her, but she is just a part of the system they use. Becky is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the moderating resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of a moderating system, but useless by herself; she can only function in the context of a complete moderating system. Becky is normally used in combination with the cat hair operating system: the whole system is basically cat hair with becky added, or cat hair/becky.
