I think the general consensus is that it's got a really idealistic view of master-slave relationships, but James Baskett is an absolute joy to watch and the artistry within it such as the live action/animation mixing and music is pretty good.

okay, it's last release was in the late 70s and i'm not sure my folks ever had it on VHS or even betamax, no idea. probably what i'm remembering are the Song of the South Golden Books and the records that went along with it. i watched some of the film just now and it didn't ring many bells. especially Briar Rabbit's mush-mouthed country negro speak. I'm probably remembering the songs and the books, which i know we had
for certain.
