I don't remember the actual figures, but it was a drop on read/writes and it would be noticeable for gaming and such. If it wasn't for gaming, not much if an impact no.

I'm using my TPM chip to encrypt every-fucking-thing. That's what it's for and it doesnt reduce performance at all. Fuck ya'll with your consumer end crap.

Use a hidden container, give them the password to the main container to fill your duty, and they can never prove the hidden one exists. It was made for precisely this.
