I don't know what he means by that. I suspect that he means that religions control different aspects of our lives depending on which branch of which religion you belong to. That isn't what "control is subjective" means though, if that phrase means anything at all.

Is OP trying to ask if we have free will or not?

I think he's highlighting that our perception of how much control we have is often different from the reality.

So it's kind of like the Aesop's Fable where the fox couldn't get the grapes out of the high tree, and as he walked off he said "those grapes were probably sour anyway." The moral was that he really did want the grapes, but he told himself that he didn't really want them to justify his failure. You're saying that we often give in too soon, not using our control to our full extent, but we tell ourselves that we did everything we possibly could.

> [Religion] tries to deny what we are and control it. But control is subjective, from scripture to scripture, opinion to opinion. Religion never can hold absolute truth.
That seems pretty clear when you read it in context. What don't you understand?

Well, that's not really about perception of control.

I'm talking about how sometimes we feel trapped and like we can't do much about a situation, when in reality there are many things one could do to change the situation...

Control is not subjective. Subjective things happen only in the mind, and are based on perception.

If I push something, make a decision, or do anything else to enforce control that happens in reality.

But what about control of yourself? Also, if you're so sure, why start a poll?

He's saying religious laws and commandments are subjective because they vary between religions.

Basically he makes himself look like an idiot on multiple levels and can't even explain his ideas clearly, so don't read too much into it.

It sounds as if he meant that the control religion exerts varies from scripture to scripture and from opinion to opinion. This makes sense as a lead-in to his next statement about religion not having any claim on absolute truth. It seems pretty clearly stated.

I am still a little in the dark about what exactly OP was trying to get at with this thread.

To show how ridiculous that statement was.

i am not really sure how to reply... the question is incredibly vague and i cant get a full grasp of the entire concept.

subjectiveness is tricky, its in your mind but what isnt in your
mind? control i dont really get either.
who is controlling what and why?

op is this explicitly about religion? is this about everything? could you give us some insight into what you were thinking when you posted this?
