Topic: I just want to share with the fora how to make canned green beans tasty.

Metæ started this discussion 11 years ago #44,074

This is my own personal recipe, a sort of gift to the fora.

The best way to begin is by cooking steak or some hamburgers or bratwurst in a skillet, leaving a bunch of that charred stuff on the bottom of the pan (not sure what the technical term for it is, Indy can you help?). After you're done cooking, dump the liquid grease out and open the can of green beans. Put the pan back on the burner until it just begins to smoke. Dump the green beans into the can, using a spatula to scrape the charred stuff off the bottom of the skillet and dissolve it into the green bean liquid. To the skillet add: 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon black pepper, a teaspoon of salt, a bunch of hot sauce and 2-3 strips of chopped fatty bacon (can be substituted with ham, but if using ham add a tablespoon of bacon grease) and simmer for 10 mins. Serve.

Wood it not be more better to do Fresh Green Beans and add the charred stuff to the Beans just b4 serving?

Betting its been almost a life time since I have tasted veggies from a can other then Termatoes and technically a Termato is not a veggy.

I am vegan and cannot eat garlic but, yes, I like it.

I regularly use the deglaze method to prepare some sort of gravy for the meals I’m cooking. It upgrades things to the next level.

Tempeh, sliced like bacon and marinated in liquid smoke, maple syrup, sunflower oil (for high temperatures), and various savory seasonings.

I cannot do any of the alliums… onion, garlic, shallot, etc ;_;. My life is so sad. I substitute asafoetida.

You might look at the recipes of Buddhist and Krishna - Garlic is NOT allowed and the food is complex n fantastic.

Buddhist re rules is more complex - for instance Meat is ok in Japan but no where else if one is Buddhist

I lack an enzyme to process sulfur compounds. Anything with sulfur could give me bad gas, but alliums are the most common source. I get terrible gas in quantity and smell for about 36 hours after consuming onions or garlic; about every 15 minutes I have a big painful fart and it's difficult to be around people. Foods that have been preserved with sulfur dioxide (various dried fruits, to preserve color; and sriracha) also get me.
