Topic: How many white people are there that cook Mexican food?

Catherine !TGirlYJKXM started this discussion 11 years ago #43,963

I came to realize for a white family we tend to eat a lot of Mexican food.

How do you cook it?

Three hundred and forty six as of today.

Turkey tacos are the worst. Like, when people make up ground turkey with one of those McCormick's seasoning packets and serve it on the boxed, premade crunchy shells with iceberg lettuce, underripe tomato, and mild cheddar cheese :(

My mother mostly cooks it because it's quick and easy. Stuff like quesadillas and tacos.
We sometimes go out to eat at Mexican restaurants since we have an abundance up here.

@580,773 (B)
This is basically what my mother says too.

Sometimes my mother makes weird burritos/wraps using hamburger helper.

None of that is authentic Mexican food.

Do you use the Mexican flavored ones?

http://www.bettycrocker.com/products/helper/mexican-favorites/cheesy-enchilada

I'm surprised at all the flavors they have now. I remember when it was like, 3 or 4 flavors. I never had it as a kid cause my mom thought it was gross so I never developed a taste for it.

I eat white meat chicken, a little salt, boiled potatoes and boring casseroles, but I put Pace™ mild picante salsa on it to make it an authentic, home cooked, Mexican dinner. Thanks.

You need to locate small mexican markets. Find a source of home made Tamales - Mole sauce dishes like Chicken with Mole -
Dishes cooked in Corn Husks and also Banana leaves.

You have done some computer coding. Cooking is just a matter of following some simple rules and of course the quality of what goes in makes for lots of discoveries

Catherine do you have Mexican food trucks? Try food from there and let us know what you had. You coukd even do a food review blog.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 18 minutes later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #581,056

Or I could look up recipes from the Internet.

@previous (kook !!mCVqftDha)
We do not have Mexican food trucks most likely because we do not need them when we have restaurants.
Except one of the restaurants I most frequent apparently doesn't get much good vibes from Yelp.

I never personally had a problem with them, but I could see where some might think they serve cheap grocery store canned goods when referring to their rice and beans.

My brother's ex-girlfriend liked them because they reminded her of her mother's cooking and she comes from a Spanish family.

Yep. They're all over the place from LA to San Diego. I will probably pass one or two on the way to work today. Cathy is somewhat inland though I think, so it might be a different experience.

Wot? When have I bragged about Tacos I make? I do and there ALMOST as good as wot I get on Taco Tuesdays. Its all the side stuff like roasted Chiles & Green Onions and marinated Cucumbers n onions n Carrots and all the Salsas to put on the Tacos - all that side stuff is wayyyyy to much trouble to make for just a few simple Tacos.
