Why is everything Arkham this and Arkham that?

Do the games even take place in Arkham Asylum anymore?

Why is every Batman everything slapped with an Arkham title now?

Anonymous B joined in and replied with this 11 years ago, 6 minutes later[^] [v] #580,524

I guess since those games are sequels, so them sharing the name Arkham is to make that clear.

Marketing mostly. The first one was set in the asylum obviously and in the second one they took the center of the city and made that the asylum but there were no scenes on the island.

In the last one the villain is called Arkham Knight. Thanks.

You could give all the enemies Kryptonite of something but that would just make it a generic beat em up

the comics obviously make his invincibility work without it being boring

A game where Lex Luthor has dimmed the sun and blamed Superman to kickstart a totalitarian revolution with him in charge and also to make superman so unpopular that he will lose all motivation to be a hero

So you still have some power but not all. You start the game with public opinion against you a lot, people will insult you in the street and there will be mobs if you hang around too long

It would be like Spider-Man 2 in gameplay style with Metropolis free to explore with missions to access, street crimes, explorables etc.

The main story involves you defeating the fake supermen that Luthor throws against you to gain public approval and further his own aims, when you defeat one you can take the "solar radiation sink" they use to simulate Supermans powers and some smart guy sent from Batmans company will put it into you so you get stronger

When this happens you can upgrade your powers or unlock new ones and you gain more health, strength etc so you will be able to defeat stronger enemies

The more you help save people the more public opinion will turn towards you again, when this happens you will gain more solar radiation sinks from minibosses because Luthor gives them more to make it more spectacular and win the public back by making it so Superman isn't seen as someone destined to succeed

So the more you do smaller non-main missions of which there are hundreds and save folks, the more power you can unlock and the easier fighting the bosses will be, although there will always be a certain level of difficulty based on the mode you select

Metropolis will also get nicer as you gain more approval and therefore power, going from "Depressing, grey and hopeless" at the start to "Colourful, blooming, bright" at the max because the more powerful you are the more you act as a replacement for the sun since you have all that solar power and the city just springs to life where ever you are

The final boss is Luthor himself inside a superman-killing suit and he has also set nuclear bombs in specific places around the globe, so you need to defeat him and destroy the transmitter which is the daily planet globe.

At the end, you crush the globe destroying the transmitter and hurl it into space, which hits the satellite sending the radiation waves which counters the solar radiation from the sun (which is how he dimmed it) and destroys it, bringing the sun back full force.

Luthor is taken into custody and put under lock and key, utterly discredited and reviled by all. He vows revenge as he is taken away and we next see him in a Batman game, because the video games have their own DC universe, like the movies but it's own thing.

There how easy was that, I just made a superman game which would be good

Boom

Arkham isn't Gotham.
