Topic: Transgender MMA Fighter Destroys Female Opponent

Critics are scrutinizing mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Fallon Fox, after the transgender fighter gave her opponent a concussion and broke her eye socket.

Fox defeated her opponent, Tamikka Brents, by TKO at 2:17 of the first round of their match. Brent’s eye injury resulted in a damaged orbital bone that required seven staples.

In a post-fight interview this week, Brents told Whoa TV, “I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life.”

“I’ve fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night. I can’t answer whether it’s because she was born a man or not, because I’m not a doctor,” she stated. “I can only say, I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life, and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right. ”

Fox’s “grip was different,” Brents added. “I could usually move around in the clinch against…females but couldn’t move at all in Fox’s clinch.”

In 2013, after a 39-second knockout victory, Fox’s fifth straight first-round victory, it was revealed that Fox had not told the MMA community about her sex-change operation, which took place in 2006.

This seems to imply that her sex change has been public knowledge in the MMA community since 2013. Presumably her biofemale opponent would have researched before the match and found this out and accepted the risk?

I mean if you were going to fight someone, you'd look up their history and stats and fighting style and strengths, weaknesses, signature moves, etc beforehand.

I don't know how or why she was allowed to stay in the women's category after the revelation. Not even how MMA leagues work. But what I mean is, in researching an opponent something major like a sex change is bound to come up right?

I wonder how much of this is due to male brain wiring vs. muscle. I don't think most women have violence in them.

Okay, the OP article was (as usual) missing some pertinent info.

March 5, 2013: Fallon Fox comes out in a Sports Illustrated interview: http://www.si.com/mma/2013/03/05/fallon-fox-transgender-mma

April 10, 2014 UFC womens champion Ronda Rousey weighs in on the controversy:
Rousey, the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, said she would fight Fox if the UFC asked her to, but she believes that Fox “has a physical advantage” because she was born a man.

Rousey says she’s researched the topic extensively and has come to an informed opinion.

“She can try hormones, chop her pecker off, but it’s still the same bone structure a man has,” Rousey told The Post. “It’s an advantage. I don’t think it’s fair.”

http://nypost.com/2013/04/10/ufc-womens-champ-rousey-weighs-in-on-transgender-fighter-controversy/

May 15, 2103: NY Times article: For Transgender Fighter Fallon Fox, There is Solace in the Cage http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/05/13/sports/for-transgender-fighter-fallon-fox-there-is-solace-in-the-cage.html

May 24, 2013 Time article: Should A Former Man Be Able To Fight Women?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Matt Mitrione called Fox a “lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak. And I mean that.” The UFC suspended Mitrione for 16 days, and fined him an undisclosed amount. “She can try hormones, chop her pecker off, but it’s still the same bone structure a man has,” UFC star Ronda Rousey told the New York Post. “It’s an advantage. I don’t think it’s fair.”

September 19, 2014: Rousey won't fight transgendered MMAer Fallon Fox.
And while she told TMZ this week she can “knockout anyone in the world,” there’s a reason she’s shying away from a potential bout with Fox, a 38-year-old who once served in the U.S. Navy as a man.

“It’s a case by case scenario thing,” Rousey said of her transgendered challenger. “I’ve tried to research it a lot. I feel like if you go through puberty as a man it’s not something you can reverse ... There’s no undo button on that.”

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/09/19/rousey-wont-fight-transgendered-mmaer-fallon-fox

There's probably more, but I digress. My point is, it appears that Fox's transgender history was no big secret, and well known in the MMA world, and that Tamikka Brents knew (or should have known) and accepted the risk. MMA is a violent sport, people get hurt and the participants understand and accept that risk.

Tamikka Brents knew Fox was a tranny. (May 25, 2013)
Statement from Tamikka Brents:

“I am tired of Fox getting all this publicity just for being a transgender fighter rather than having great skills. I think it’s unfair anyway but as long as the opponent knows and accepts the fight then go ahead… I mean Allana took her to the third and she’s not even a 145er; she’s a more of a 135er who can probably go even lower to 125 pounds. She’s using all that attention as a good publicity tactic – go ahead and ride that free publicity train as long as you can. I’ll gladly derail that s#*t quickly so the world can go back to giving the publicity and notice to the female fighters who earn it. It just pisses me off that Women’s MMA has fought to get away from being seen as a side show. She’s using that to further her career while setting Women’s MMA back in the process.”
http://www.intimidationmma.com/intimidation-clothing-sponsored-tamikka-brents-calls-out-fallon-fox-i-want-the-fight-bad/

So Tamikka knew Fox was trans, and "wanted the fight bad". I think the evidence is clear that Tamikka Brents understood Fox was born male, and willingly took the risk of fighting him.

A shame. She could have been one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts.
She ain't no bitch. She'd train her ass off so she'd be able to kick some of the men's ass.
To think she'd lose just because her opponent is a man is extremely sexist and whomever thinks that way must be euthanized.

Fox's hormones were in the range for women, and she was 8 years post SRS at the time of the fight. Brents and Fox were also in the same weight class and Fox's height of 5'7" isn't terribly tall for a woman. So where was the advantage? Does skeletal shape really matter that much? Or was it psychological? They said bone density was a thing but wouldn't heavier limbs be slower? I don't know enough about biology to work this out.

kook !!mCVqftDha replied with this 11 years ago, 10 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #581,008

They might be slower but they are probably heavier and more powerful. A serious question, are you okay with all bio males participating in womens sports or just the ones that cut off their dicks?
Also why are you worried about trannies never winning against other males but not worried about women never winning against trannies?

> A serious question, are you okay with all bio males participating in womens sports or just the ones that cut off their dicks?
No. I think it's tremendously unfair for a male to compete in women's sports, for the obvious reasons. I don't know how or why the MMA club is allowing this but it will make a mockery of the sport.

I don't think transwomen should be in women's sports but I don't run the MMA and if that's how they want to run things then I don't know what to say.

That being said, Tamikka Brents knew she was fighting a biological male and said she "wanted the fight bad", and if she willingly chose that, knowing about the trans thing then I think we should respect her decision.

> Also why are you worried about trannies never winning against other males but not worried about women never winning against trannies?
I don't care who wins, and I don't give a damn about sports either way. I just was surprised that a male, even years after castration and hormone therapy would still have such an advantage.

Yes.
Heavier limbs are not necessarily slower when it comes to hitting. Velocity is an integral part of power, it's not like on videogames where strong guys move like glaciers. Watch heavyweights fighting, their punches and kicks are just as fast, if not faster as a lightweight's, and pack a lot more power.

Heavier bones also means you can take more punishment, blocking incoming hits is easier on your body.

Even if she's has muscles and hormones normal for a (roided) woman, her body structure didn't change. Broader shoulder, strong chin, heavier bones, all these things give her an advantage over biowomen.

What? Where?

I mean, I think an MtF trans would not be able to compete in men's MMA but I've never said they should be allowed in the women's league.

> Are men and women not equals?
They are equals before the law and in society but sexual dimorphism means that in most athletic events men do significantly better than women. That doesn't mean men are better than women, it just means they have more muscle, more lung capacity, larger hearts, heavier bones, etc. It's like asking "are trucks better than cars?" If you want to move tons of concrete than yes, but if you want to travel in comfort and want a maneuverable agile vehicle, then no. They're different tools for different jobs and it's pointless to argue which is better.

This. I get what Meta was saying, but I think it was a bit one-dimensional. Yes there's generally a gendered biological advantage in play, but life experience or other biological factors can be influences too.

Some men just might not be suited to fighting or physical feats at all. Some women might be. You can't just reduce it all down to gender.

This. I would never win a fight with the female MMA champions even though as a male I have higher muscle mass or bone density or a heavier frame or a longer arm or whatever because I have zero fighting training and am somewhat overweight. But can the best female MMA fighters compete with the best male ones? Er not so much so good.

Also I don't care for fighting.

We need a new sport with giant exoskeletons so you can all shut the fuck up about sexual dimorphism and then bio men and women could compete against trannies without there being an unfair advantage.
