I'm not sure which is sadder: that there are people obsessive enough to scrutinize, pixel by pixel, campaign marketing images, or that Trump's graphic artists are so sloppy they got the wrong kind of soldiers. I could just see the artist at work:
Okay, we got a picture of Trump cause it's his campaign, an American flag cause it's America and what else do we need? Oh, some hundred dollar bills cause he's a billionaire and going to make us rich, a picture of the White House so people know what it's about and, um, some soldiers cause muh freedumbs. Shit what war? Can't do Iraq cause that's not going so well, um Vietnam is a no, no one remembers Korea, oh WWII! Everyone loves that that one! Let's just Google WWII soldiers, ah fuck it they look pretty soldier-ey, good enough let's Tweet this baby!

While I don't think it matters as trump is a joke, it's evidence of a larger problem in our media and political system. Substance doesn't matter. A simple mistake that really means nothing gets blown out of proportion. Having a shitty graphic artist work on your twitter account literally says nothing about a candidate unless its a persistent problem.
However, the American public are selfish idiots, so this is what gets reported on. It's a great distraction from actual issues.

I especially liked The Guardian's headline: Donald Trump campaign tweets photo with Nazi soldiers – then leads polls implying some kind of causal relationship. Later in the article:
So, within an hour, Trump tweets some Waffen SS, mobilizes his legions of Nazi supporters to vote in a nationwide poll which USA Today managed to conduct and publish within that same hour? They said Nazis were efficient but damn!

It'll still bend the facts sometimes. They are still a newspaper with various agendas and such.

He is. It's early. He's just the guy most people have heard the most about so far, so polls tend to go that way because he is one of the few people that anyone can name. It'll shift pretty quickly when more serious candidates with actual qualifications get going with their campaigns.
