Not only does it take 4.5 hours for a signal from New Horizon to arrive to Earth - Its at 1KB/Sec data rate - can jump to 2KB/Sec using the back up system. Its going to take almost 3 more months for the buffered recorded data to end up here. Is an amazing venture

US DOE protested use of more Plutonium and the original design had to be reduced to a more shared use of gadgets on board. I just looked up total on board Plutonium n its 24 pounds. Issue of course was the wat if launch failed and the spread of Plutonium is not so much environmental friendly.
Typical solution is to make the space craft antenna much larger. With more money one could place way station space crafts as relay points between end destination and Earth.

sure is an ugly little thing. a lot more round than i thought it was going to be. it's one of the less round of the larger objects in our solar system but i've always pictured it as being kinda oblongish based on descriptions. i guess it's not that far off from spherical, but i was kinda hoping for something with a little more character. It does look like it's got some really huge areas gouged out and is kinda pock marked from impacts. probably the surface isn't anywhere close to smooth, which means it could be geologically active? i always figured it was just a big cold dead rock. still ugly though. mercury has more character.
