Topic: US Pyrex measuring cup versus Pyrex measuring jug

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #43,694

Notice that the volume unit "cup" is used in the US, while the UK has no such unit and uses fractions of pints. If you do further reading on the topic, you will find that that the UK pint is 20 fluid ounces, while the US pint is 16 fluid ounces. Also, the size of the fluid ounce is not even the same for the two places.

In the UK, this is called a "measuring jug".

If, however, you are a sane individual, you would simply rotate it to reveal a superior system for measuring liquids.

Well if one happens upon a book of recipes published in the US, or from some time in the past, such concerns are to be considered.

Thank you. I'll keep this in mind the next time I bake a cake using a UKEnglish recipe and USAmerican measuring apparatus.

Thanks. I was confused at first, but I managed to figure out what you were talking about. :)

This thread alone is reason to fully disband USAmerica and just turn it all over to the UKEnglish.

@OP thank you for blowing the lid off this whole thing. You will be treated well in the history books.

Oh I must say congratulations to the Corning Incorporated company on 100 years of the Pyrex brand, started in 1915.

Holy crap could we? We might get affordable health care and education, and all your UKIP people could come over here and actually look sane next to our politicians.

I'd be paranoid about the cameras monitoring everything.
