Why do some gay people wish to enter into contractual relationships (ie marriage) sanctioned by religious institutions which are corrupt, misogynistic, homophobic and bigoted?

Because some gay and trans people are religious.

In many cases, the nominated religion promotes sexual prejudice and outright hatred of minorities. Why would any rational person want anything to do with such organizations, or worse still, swear an oath under their ideologies and practices?

Because I can put wife on my health insurance. Also it will present the image of a nice married couple to the courts, so that my slow brothers baby mama wont try anything funny.

Wouldn't a civil ceremony offer you the same legal and medical benefits?

I'd be okay with that as well. Well actually I dont think that it would be seen the same by the courts. So I'd still choose marriage.
