Topic: Im three days off my antidepressants and things are getting strange

Triptych started this discussion 11 years ago #43,622

I did the 6 week taper I was prescribed but
It's like my mind and skull are moving at different rates and it's getting hard to keep my mind inside my body
Things look strange in the dark

Will you please explain this in more detail?

It's hard to explain
Every time my heart rate goes up even a tiny bit, ie when walking, it seems like my mental insides "jump" up from my corporeal self momentarily. Often. Repeatedly.
In the past if I'd forget to take them i'd get this combined with electric shocks in my body

@previous (Triptych)
Have you discussed this with your doctor?

Triptych (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 2 minutes later, 13 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #576,347

@previous (kook !!mCVqftDha)
yeah they're common symptoms
Effexor is terrible for withdrawal I wish I'd never needed it

Oh well better than Prozac
My roommate got high but I still have a cough so I'm doing shots out of a tiny beaker I took from my orgo 1 lab

The mind acting independently of the body is a common symptom?

Mental jumps or "brain zaps" are common SSRI and SNRI withdrawal symptoms.

I've never heard of this before. Have you ever felt such a thing?

hater !JGlOo5d1iU joined in and replied with this 11 years ago, 2 hours later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #576,445

I went cold turkey for both mine. The first time my doctor mistook Wellbutrin for an SSRI, so he said I wouldn't have withdrawal off the lexapro. Not true. That was rough, but the Wellbutrin wasnt bad.

Triptych (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 7 hours later, 11 hours after the original post[^] [v] #576,521

drinking heavily is my only coping mechanism cause this is fucked

@previous (hater !JGlOo5d1iU)
Jesus what an incompetent doctor
Prozac had the side effect of puking up everything i ate and my doctor insisted it was ibs

Triptych, I also once had to "taper off" and quit Effexor. It was hell. I was in this semi-awake, semi-conscious dream state for days, in which I suffered horrible, living nightmares, and strange feelings that the universe was gone. It will get better in a few days: have faith. I also got the brain zaps.

nah i have the self control to not drink when i need to be sober
would've gotten stoned instead but it wwouldve made the zaps worse

Are you on summer break now?

Triptych (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 2 minutes later, 12 hours after the original post[^] [v] #576,528

yeah I took a summer course but it ended last month
me and my roommate are working at a summer camp out of town
it's hellish

It's probably a good time to taper off then, but be careful. It's probably good to get off the Effexor because your your more recreational use of serotonergic drugs puts you at risk for things like serotonin toxicity, but keep your friends close just in case any crazy side effects lead to more serious depression or things like hallucinations, suddenly dropping into a coma, tremors, paranoia, etc.

Or, alternately, just stop doing illegal drugs.

i feel that but honestly it's terrible. passing out drunk v quickly, around 10 pm. and even normally, asleep at like 11 and awake at 10 and three cups of coffee just to stay awake in the mornings

I can sleep for 12 hours a day, but I still have difficulty falling asleep.

Well, I guess it's more accurate to say its in bed for 12 hours, I wake up and fall back asleep constantly.

Depression will help you stay in bed all day. Are you married? I hear the death of a loved one can cause depression. Just saying, if you need a solution...

Oh I'm in bed plenty, I just can't make my brain shut off so I can fall asleep. I do tend to spend most of my day in bed because it's the only place where I can comfortably use my laptop for long periods of time.

hater !JGlOo5d1iU replied with this 11 years ago, 7 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #576,750

@previous (FuckAlms !vX8K53rFBI)
Oh, I meant being in bed as in bed and eyes closed attempting to sleep.

You should cease that practice. It will help you fall asleep (supposedly) if you only use your bed for sleeping.

Triptych (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 10 hours later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #576,826

ok i woke up at 5.30 am bc my water bottle had leaked all over me

Have you had sleep paralysis? I had that alot when I quit Effexor.

Triptych (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 11 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #576,828

Not yet, just when sober and when still on effexor
Sleep paralysis is p cool tho I could go for that
How long did the brain jumps last for you?

Two weeks. After two weeks, most symptoms went away.

Yes, I have felt it. The symptoms start to happen for me after missing a dose by at least 6 hours.

The symptoms are documented in all side effects literature for drugs in these classes.
