I'm a fan of tipping generously unless I'm really strung for cash. Plus these people are working for probably not so much pay and they are also handling your food. Why not keep them happy if you can afford it? That's just my two cents though.

18% - 21% is only standard in a nice sit-down restaurant where they spend a decent amount of time waiting on you and serving you. It is NOT the standard for someone driving to your house to drop off your food. Also, delivery drivers are paid much better than servers in restaurants who are typically working just for tips. That being said, I will still tip a delivery driver 10% - 15%, assuming there is not already a significant delivery charge added to the bill.

i just think people should be fairly compensated instead of over compensated for their work. same for CEOs though. but, since i do believe minimum wage should be raised it's hard to say workers on the low end are overcompensated.
but a 60% tip to deliver a sandwich is a bit over the top. most delivery people aren't like waiters who get paid 2.15 an hour, drivers normally already make minimum wage or better. so the 20% rule doesn't really apply do delivery guys any more than it would apply to tipping a salesman $140 bucks for selling you a $700 TV and helping you to the car with it. if anything you give him a few bucks. i mean if you have a sofa delivered from The Room Store do you tip the delivery guys $600 bucks for manhandling your 3 thousand dollar sofa? no, you might give them 20 bucks though.
driving over and walking up to the door and handing me a sandwich is like a 2 dollar convenience.

fuck, hell no, that would be crazy. even though they pretty much do the same job. one just gets paid better then the other and there's an expectation to tip food delivery people specifically and not necessarily everyone else who performs stuff delivery.
tipping is like random. You tip your hairdresser, but not your lawn mower. you tip your pizza man, but not your mail man.
so you can't even really say "you don't tip professionals, you do tip low-skilled work" because it doesn't always work that way even.
like you might tip a maid but you won't tip a garbage man. idk. it's just random so you have to know the "rules" even though there really are very few hard fast rule
but somehow food service found a way to standardize it to a percent.

so, the general assumptions is that you don't fuck with people that handle your food, because handling people's food and fucking with it if they are assholes is an american tradition. there's a fear that if you don't treat food servers with respect, then they will get back at you by spitting in your food or over-salting it or just fucking with it. and this is a fair assumption, because that's what happens. And when it comes to delivery of food you really want to tip well (the thinking goes) because the same people will be taking the order, making the food, or delivering it, and if you don't tip well enough then they won't make your food cleanly and well or they will not deliver it promptly. So, if you tip them really well there's also an expectation they'll hurry up and make it right and fast and get it to you quickly!
so, that leads to overtipping in food service. and as long as restaurants have this weird exception about minimum wage that allows them to pay $2 bucks an hour food service will never be paid for like every other service. it's just weird. tipping. but it's built into some businesses for some reason. i mean they could just pay their staff a proper wage, but "pay for performance" is what people think food service really needs in order to operate, despite so many other kinds of service work being paid for without relying on the generosity of your customers.

I'm still coming to terms with an $8.74 sandwich being delivered for whatever amount you decide to pay. I have to pay more than the price of a pizza to get the pizza delivered. But that pizza delivery is still cheaper than a taxi, so always find a pizza place and get a pizza delivered to your house and ask to get a ride with the driver.
