The Roman Empire was vast and great which eventually spawned the great British Empire which eventually, on accident, spawned the current Empire known as the United States of America.

Is America much of an empire? Extremely powerful, certainly, but it doesn't go around land-grabbing like the Romams and us Brits used to.

Looking into that Wikipedia article, turns out that male and female symbols represent Roman deities, which Venus and Mars are themselves named after. Pretty smart to have that symbol, then.
