Along with pastors, Huckabee said that he expects to see Christian business owners, university presidents and school administrators resist. He said county clerks should not be required to issue licenses for same-sex marriages if they do not want to.

Huckabee, like many Republicans, has said that the Supreme Court's ruling will usher in an age of discrimination against Christians who oppose same-sex marriage and may be forced to acknowledge or serve gay and lesbian weddings.

lol. he's basically saying people should actively discriminate and refuse to serve gays. that's pretty far out of touch, bud

Well i for one would not force a gay priest to conduct the marriage of two homophobes

I think people like Huckabee and Trump are just there to make the more serious candidates look sane by comparison.

That is actually a very cunning tactic by the Republicans.

Their "normal" candidates are really rather crazy in themselves, yet next to crazy of this magnitude, they are made to seem more normal and reasonable.

I agree. I believe that they get paid for it as well.

Isn't Donald Trump absurdly wealthy, though? Wouldn't have thought he's being paid off, myself. Nah, I reckon he is simply being sincere.

With Trump I feel like it's for attention/publicity with no actual expectation of winning.

A church wouldn't be right? Only state people

correct. a priest can deny you a marriage if you show up and he smells alcohol. they have to sign off on the marriage, like if two families are trying force their kids to marry because they got knocked up a priest doesn't have to recognize the union because of coercion or something.

not really sure, but i think churches choose who they allow to marry under their roof.

Maybe, yeah. It's much funnier if he's being completely serious, though.

Huckabee is a potential President.
At least people get to see what they will get if elected.

1. Isolate all of the Christians to specific churches.
2. Rig said churches.
3. Gas them all like dogs.

Here is why I asked this. In my line of work, I have met some truly bad people. Racists, sexists, criminals, and people who have done things that you've probably never even thought of. But I still treat them the same, because they are all human. The sweet black grandmother gets a shower, and the 20 year old skin head gets a shower. Discriminating against people is neglect in the medical field, and nonhelpful all around.

I'm not really in a position where I can do the kind of things Mike Huckabee can, for reasons which should be obvious. But at this point, it amounts to general lack of respect since that's all I can do.

The thing is, if they don't treat you as human, why should you treat them as human? I get the "be the bigger person" thing, and I'm generally pretty willing to give people second, third, and fourth chances should they deserve them. It's why sometimes after a good 200-reply thread about trans stuff, I'm still willing to hear you out most of the time. I still watch JonTron's new videos despite him doing plenty of things that SHOULD have him shitlisted. Because if someone has enough positive qualities to outweigh the negative qualities, then well, that's it. They have enough positive qualities to outweigh the negative qualities, but denying people basic respect is a pretty strong negative quality.

kook !!mCVqftDha replied with this 11 years ago, 10 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^] [v] #573,775

Discrimation on either side, is a terrible thing. Many people get mean and combative when they become old and sick. Should they be denied care if they dehumanize a worker? Should racists be allowed to open bank accounts? Should transphobes be able to use a public library?
Where does it begin or end?

You almost never here me out, but thats okay. I never expect much, and thats what I get. Thats partially my fault, and I'm changing my approach.
