Topic: alright, you fagits, here's how you fix the whole "cop problem."

since everyone around here loves to complain about shit and no one offers up any solutions for anything except for incredulity, here's my solution for fixing that whole cop problem. you know, the one where they keep killing unarmed blacks and whatever.
so the first thing is to get the FAA to loosen flight restrictions for drones. have them create like a 500ft zone of airspace above all cities that is dedicated to drone flight. you shouldn't really have any traffic that low anyway. Then you build a little drone landing pad on top of all police cars and put a drone (or two) on every single police car in the city.
Then, you give the cop an RFID tag and put that shit in his badge.
Then you create a small command and control center and staff it with a couple of lawyers, just like the military does. And so the way it would work is exactly the way the military policies itself. before any military action be taken, especially by drone or by something like an AC130 tracking suspected targets, they have to get legal clearance before they can initiate any kind of action.
So in practice when an officer begins to engage a suspect, say they are pulling someone over for speeding, as soon as the sirens turn on, the drone takes off and does nothing but follows the cop. it's not there to be used by the cop but it's there as simply an observer to take in the entirety of the scene.
See, cops wearing cameras is only okay. They can cover that shit up unintentionally, and when they run or move around or engage a suspect with the camera at an angle, then critical information goes missing. When they run you can't make anything out because the camera is bobbing. So a stable aerial platform would give a birds eye view of the entire situation, of every situation, that occurs, and it would also provide a video feed back to Command and Control where superior officers can watch what's happening in real time, and possibly even provide situational awareness back to the officer.
kid at the park playing with a gun, send in the fucking drone. put a speaker on that bitch and a little siren and have that fucker tell that kid to put that gun on the ground or some shit. then when it's cleared as safe by C&C then police can move in.
second part: 360 degree cameras on the roof of the car, and a camera on the cop. there's no reason other than expense why they don't already at least do this. that and institutionalized corruption. i mean who wants to be watched like that? not cops. but they need to be.
everything they do, everywhere they go, every step should be under surveillance.
Cheaper alternative that'll probably happen anyway: predator drones. just let it all get a little bit worse and the police will all have a civilian operated predator drone surveillance program that flies 2 or 3 big military drones with very advances optics that'll pretty much give them complete coverage of the entire city and keep every single cop under surveillance.
but until then, when no one is looking, lots of bad shit is just going to keep happening.
so that's my solution, and if i was like a congressman i'd be working on trying to draft a bill that would pave the way for surveillance of police or something. but the whole drone thing is still super taboo and there's a lot of people that would shit themselves in congress before allowing for massive drone use on american soil - for whatever reason. so i don't think it's likely to happen any time soon. now without a lot of public outcry.
but no one is trying to advance solutions, everyone just wants to point at problems and scream look, look!
so whatever.

yeah, well my solution isn't really a holistic approach. if i were going to do that then i would inject a massive influx of cash into the areas hit hardest by poverty. improve their services greatly, like transportation by investing in light rail and bus systems. Also job training (done locally, not require people to travel across town) and massively invest in more schools and renovate the older ones. give students all modern equipment and give teachers the tools they need to educate. Build parks, libraries, subsidize homes and incentivize businesses to move in with tax breaks. Also give more money to the police in impoverished areas and give them better training and more time off so they lead less stressful lives in general. Then open libraries and community centers where people can go to do anything from look for jobs to having activities for kids. Then, open a whole fuck load of day cares and subsidize the fucking shit out of it. daycares, preschools, elementaries, everywhere.
unfortunately to fix the systemic problem that exists because of insular poverty it requires a massive, massive effort. here, read this if you're interested

the tl;dr is that to fix poverty it requires a massive investment into poor communities because their problems are really, really insurmountable.
the only thing i disagree with is his position that it can be entirely fixed because the cost would be too great. but, you can certainly go a long way (further than we currently do) to alleviate as much of it as is actually possible.
this dudes ideas are part of the reason i'm a proponent of a guaranteed minimum income in this country rather than the weird ala carte welfare social services crap they do today that isn't much more than a band-aid.

no, the drones aren't weapons, they are just cameras. maybe they'd replace the big helicopters with crazy infrared optics, but that would be more giving the police the drones to use to apprehend suspects. instead i'm thinking an automated drone that locks onto the RFID tag on the cop and just flies around and films him whenever he gets out of his car. a step further would be command and control with real-time video feeds from the drone watched by superiors who may intervene by radio commands to the officer. idk, that's why i say maybe 2 drones, one for police use one for civilian. but anyway, i'm thinking kinda like a civilian oversight by automatic drone. basically. so if there's ever a question about an officers actions there's the drone footage to look at and all that would be in civilian hands, not hidden away on a police server somewhere.

I like the idea of drones doing the work but the tech needs to be improved before it becomes a realistic idea. Even the Wiki page for it acknowledges most people who are killed are innocent.

@573,382 (I)the quad copters i'm thinking of are quite small and can't really carry the weight of a gun. they can fly a go-pro though. i work with a guy that owns one, it's a pretty cool thing, drones.
