OP, I'm not a big cannabis fan, and I don't grow it myself, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to grow indoors because a) you use lights that are designed to simulate natural sunlight and b) it decreases your risk of getting caught.

lol I'm keeping it to myself. I just thought I'd attention whore. Anyway, the seed failed to germinate, not sure why. Maybe it was too cold. Retrying with a different one in a warmer environment.

The lights aren't designed to simulate natural sunlight, they are designed for optimum thc production.

Use a little pipette tube to water your seedling so you don't drown it. Plant it root down and cover it with some soil (like 1mm of soil). Keep the water moist. About half of all cannabis seeds will germinate, and about three quaters of the ones that germinate will take root and grow (then only half of those will turn out to be female). You will be able to grow it in natural sunlight, but the quality of bud will be no where near as good as a plant grown under lighting (I am speaking from experience here). @previous (I)I don't have a pippette so what I've been doing is soaking a new sponge with distilled water and appplying by squeezing the sponge, which gives a little drop each time so it's pretty much the same thing. And this is just an experimental grow, I'm not very bothered about yield or quality with this one tbh. How I germinated it was by placing it in a small container of water and putting the container on pipes in my airing cupboard.
And every source I read told me to plant it root up, because otherwise you'll end up with the seed wasting energy it needs to do what the one on the right is doing?

I've tried that before, didn't have much success. Apparently the seed needs oxygen to sprout, not sure how true that is though.

That would be planting it upside down. The root will seek water and grow downwards, pushing the seed up for the stem to grow. I have always planted root down with no problem and many plants grown that way. Never heard of that pseudoscience before... roots seek water, it's their job.

I've been using http://www.weedsthatplease.com/germinating.htm as my main guide, but I've read at least 2 other websites that I don't remember which said to plant it with the germinated root facing up, one of them had a more detailed version of that MSpaint image I put up.

ok so when I was watering it today some of the soil covering it came off and I got a look at the seed. It's really coming along!
