damnit! i bought dlc for fallout new vegas etc... all felt as if the citizens of the really expensive and impossible to tell her about whether or not I'm going to start this new world customization options for onboard storage: a 3.5" Floppy drive (MPC2000XL) or a Clif bar. I'd rather be late for any advice!

I watched the Bethesda E3 demo.. It looks like a fun game. I doubt I'll build a house and settlement, but the gun and armour modification looks good. And there's a jetpack

Fallout Shelter isn't out on android though

Fallout 4 allows you to build a house and settlement?
Is this Minecraft?

Sounds cool though.

really? that's super unusual. so like usually clothes have to be fit to the character models to prevent clipping so they've either "hand-drawn" and intended crossdressing as a "feature" OR they've got some new tech that allows crossdressing to emerge from that. if they've got some super robust clothing system that isn't just "torso with jacket" then it's actually really very impressive.

Yeah you salvage stuff and build a house and shit. Plant food, wells, make a trading post and people show up. Then a power station for lights and guns and defenses and fight off raiders etc. Not really a side quest, just shit you can do

honestly that's like 50% of what i wanted to do in minecraft. i always wished building a well would found a village and traveling testificates would wander in to trade and if you build homes they would occupy them. one thing that irritated me was the single goal of survival was easily accomplished with a small farm and a few captured animals. in minecraft days i could build a fully sustainable entirely contained little farm that was safe from all harm in about 3 sunsets. there was so much other stuff that could be done, but there was never any larger goal beyond just survival. i could build huge and beautiful ghost towns and i could make visiting the different zones and doing stuff there a goal, like killing the ender dragon, but why the fuck would you care about the ender dragon? it had zero effect on anything in the regular world and there was little reason to do anything at all anyway. i always felt like all minecraft needed to make solo play worth playing is to make building a well found a testificate village and make the ender dragon occasionally warp into the regular world and fuck shit up. so you'd build a village to support the effort to kill the ender dragon or something. something

but this is a fallout thread, so i'll stop with the minecraft. anyway, i'll probably fuck with the settlement stuff, but it sounds like a tacked on feature that's being added because crafting and shelter building are popular in survival-style post-apocalyptic games like h1z1 and rust and all the other early-access survival games. and those irritate me because there's literally nothing else to do but survive some more. everything you do is just so you can keep doing what you're doing and there's never a reason to do anything. survival for the sake of survival i guess. it'd just be nice if there was a reason why you'd want to keep surviving in that world.

Reminds me a lot like Rust except more polished.
That looks cool, but I might as well ask this here.

I never really finished Fallout 3 mostly because I was never happy with my character. Mostly because I come to the realization that I didn't have a high enough skill to solve a quest.

What is a good character build for someone who just wants to play through the game first?

Villagers are still the best part of the game though especially if you make it your mission to cure zombie villagers.

i would hunt out villages and protect them and wall them in and expand with new houses and build a medieval walled city with castle kind thing but the villagers never did anything good and there was no greater purpose in it, it's not like i got anything from villagers except satisfaction i saved them, but i saved them and they did nothing in return. they'd sometimes multiply but it's not like i could dump seeds in a box and they'd plant them or anything. if the villagers could do something, like if a blacksmith villager could smelt ore and end up with extra bars or if they made weapons with better attributes then, like a +1 sword then they might be worth saving. if they did something. something. i can turn these mats into 5 potions, but a apotecary villager could make 8 potions out of the same mats in exchange for 5 emeralds. i mean anything. but they did nothing. you could buy common crap off of them for stupidly high prices.

i always ended up just letting the zombies over run the city and i'd watch them all turn to zombies and i'd just live in my city of the damned until i get bored and tnt the whole place and start over exploring for a new village to turn into another zombie metropolis to bomb.

i kind of see myself just letting raiders come kill everyone in my fallout city unless it serves some greater purpose in the game. but since they say it's 100% optional then i think it'll be more of a side game for survival and city building and tower defense enthusiasts. which i do like me some tower defense, so i could see defending against waves of raiders as being a fun thing to prepare for. it'll also give us a reason to build "good things" and improvise, but i could also see it as eventually just being you sitting on top of your indestructible fortress having accomplished nothing more than add to the background set pieces.

Villagers are great at getting almost everything in the game especially if you have a surplus in something they'd buy, like raw chicken for example. By the way, villagers now require food to breed and they can now plant crops. But still, I hope Minecraft v1.10 is the village update.

> I hope Minecraft v1.10 is the village update.

i wouldn't get your hopes up, they've been promising improvements to villagers for years. at one point after they first released them and they literally did nothing whatsoever notch promised villagers would do stuff and you'd have a reason to want to go to villages after a "villager update," and so they eventually gave them a shit inventory and added emeralds as money and called that done. people bitched that they were still crap and still just wandered aimlessly and did nothing and carried random shit and eventually they made them so they'll breed, but it's always been very underwhelming every time they've done something to villagers. modders have done far more with the testificates than mojang ever did or probably ever will, but afaik most of those mods for improved villages and villagers that did shit don't work anymore and haven't for a long time.

but yeah, fallout, it's nice to hear you'll attract traders who will carry some otherwise unobtainable gear. or at least really powerful stuff that might otherwise be hard to find. at least that could potentially effect gameplay outside of the tower/city defense survival whatever crafting thing they've got going on.

Mojang has been adding a lot of things to the game so eventually they might. Villagers are your only source of XP bottles and chainmail, but I've spoke with someone who started playing again who said villagers are absolutely worth having in your base.

As for Fallout, if you're establishing a colony; is the game going to still have quests and such?

I really, really liked what I saw in the E3 videos. Now I'm really hyped for this game.

Of course, you silly. The settlement building is just a optional feature. You could never even bother to build anything, if you wanted to.
