I think nothing will happen. Nations forgive debt all the time, and it seems to have no real negative consequences. I think the EU should just drop it. What do you think?

Yes, they should have. But one cannot reverse time. The problem must be dealt with now, and to deal with it by ruining the lives of millions, is not an option. I think the debt should be forgiven, then new, strict controls over Greece economy should be implemented to prevent it from happening again.

So because Greece is incompetent, they should just get to keep billions of dollars they didn't lawfully or ethically earn? How is that fair? Also who in their right mind would ever lend to Greece again at a reasonable interest rate if they have a history of defaulting on their debts? I don't think it'll work out well for them.

Being a eurosceptic isn't restricted to right-wing politics. Labour have just started a eurosceptic group for example. So fuck the EU, it's an overbearing institution loaded down with rules, red tape and bureaucrats. As for my political stance, I'm more center right than a liberal.

The EU is doomed to fail, Greece defaulting on their debt is just a step towards that direction.
But it won't default, the big boys (read: Germany, France) are clinging desperately to their fortress called Europe, they profit too much from it to let it fall apart.
