Well it could be bad from a self-preservation standpoint, if it made you do things like donate too much to charity or risk your life. It could even drag your mood down more easily, which is itself harmful in the long-term.

Catherine, you probably are not extra empathetic. Why do you think you are?

Because sometimes I have sadistic thoughts of torturing small animals and people, but could never actually do such a thing in real life. And if I somehow managed to do it I might end up crying asking myself what the fuck it is I am doing.

That just makes you normal. Most people cant torture animals and other people.

that sounds like the bare minimum amount of empathy

So you're saying that you have "too much empathy" because you don't act on your thoughts of torturing things? That sounds like a minimal amount of empathy, really.
Also, I should point out that just occasionally having thoughts like that isn't all that unusual. I recall seeing about a study in a lecture where the occasional violent or unpleasant thoughts were actually somewhat common in people. Though if you're having them constantly, then obviously it's different.

I found this little flash game where you torture a virtual man.
It gets boring after awhile, but I'd post it in case someone might be interested.
I know there has to be at least one here who would be.

I thought of something else that often made me question if I have too much empathy.
I sometimes have thoughts and fantasies about becoming so rich where every cent I spend is for the betterment of other people all while it puts me into poverty. Like I could imagine spending so much on others that it forces me to live well below my means. Not sure if this is due to too much empathy or just masochism and depression.

Do you think that you feel most emotions more strongly than the average person, or just some of them?

Hard to answer really, sometimes I feel like the former is true while other times I feel the latter is true.

Times, I cannot accurately say, but emotions usually just anger and sadness.
Of course that might just be depression.

But how does this anger manifest?
I feel like I have less emotions than the average person.
Oh and this doesnt count as empathy.

I do not feel comfortable going too into detail, but I would say a few things can set me off such as my own stupidity and inability to figure things out without first yelling my head off beating myself up until finally a solution comes to me, my own immaturity, and thinking about my past.
