"My wife and I, as a matter of conscience, refuse to recognise the government's regulation of marriage if its definition includes the solemnisation of same sex couples," said Mr Jensen, who is director of the Lachlan Macquarie Institute, which partners with the Australian Christian Lobby to offer scholarships designed to develop a Christian worldview and foster leaders in government policy.
Mr Jensen told Fairfax Media that he and his wife entered into their marriage "as a fundamental order of creation, part of God's intimate story for human history, man and woman, for the sake of children, faithful and for life".
"And so, if later on in the year the state does go ahead and changes the definition of marriage and changes the terms of that contract then we can no longer partake in that new definition unfortunately," he said.
Legalising same-sex marriage would undermine "our most sacred institution, and have serious consequences for children who would grow up without a mother or father," Mr Jensen said.

But Mr Jensen said he and his wife could look at a legal challenge, which would leave them effectively fighting for their right to get divorced.
"It would be quite ironic if the state wouldn't actually allow us to get divorced," he said.
"If a group of people got together and said 'actually, we want to take this to the courts', then maybe that would be something we'd be involved with.
"It's something we take very seriously, and we feel in our conscience that we can't actually partake in any redefined marriage."
But Mr Farrar said the couple would not have a leg to stand on in any court challenge.

It has to make you wonder. Everyone this couple is "protesting" (using that word lightly) against probably feels this way already. What the fuck do I care if two people I don't know are married, divorced, living together, or whatever the fuck they want to do? These two want to be divorced? Great, if that makes them happy. Whatever. They're two adults; they can figure their own situation out, right? Why do I need to have an opinion about something I don't care about and that doesn't affect me? Or are they just thinking everyone is hypersensitive busybodies like they are? If the Aussie government revokes their marriage, do they still feel they are married before God? If they do, why the fuck bother? If the government is just rubber stamping a more important religious situation then why care how the government thinks of it if being married in the eyes of God or Allah or The Flying Spaghetti Monster or Marduk is all the really matters. If the religious aspect is all that counts, then why not let the government do whatever the fuck they are going to do?
