That statement applies to both science and religion.
Even the most basic things you believe about science - like things are made up of atoms - are based on your faith that the people who claimed they proved that were telling the truth. You can't create your own atom smasher to test their theories. You're just accepting what they told you as truth, because it fits your experiences.
