Megabytes. Literally, tens of megabytes.

Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of bits.

This is a joke, but the database dump is about 800mb, which compresses down to 250mb. That is everything, including private information such as IP addresses. It might be a nice idea to release just the topics and replies sometime, without uid/ip information. Then there's the images of course, which clock in at 2gb.

I do keep daily backups.

Why do you post with an admin hyperlink? Is it like a reminder to other posters or a badge of authority?

It's so people see the post is made by an admin. I normally post anonymously, but that wouldn't make a lot of sense here.

How can I shrink the database? OTK is bloated to over 1GB and we barely even have any content.

I've not done anything to shrink it. I occasionally delete UIDs that have 0 posts and have not been used in a long time, and clear the activity table, but that doesn't do that much. The size I cited is that of an .sql backup file generated by mysqldump of all the databases I have, which excludes any kind of indexes though it's not a compact format either. However phpmyadmin still only shows 885mb for the entire database, which nearly matches the actual disk usage of 887mb.

The largest table is the users table at 265mb, then replies at 228mb, then failed postings at 80.6mb (i should prune this one probably), then activity at 74.8mb.

Do you have any backups of early MC from 2010? It would be neat to have like museum.minichan.org and relive all the old drama.
