Hi, business owners of minichan.

Have you ever gone into business with someone? How did it work out?

What tips do you have for picking out a business partner?

it was terrible, we opened a refreshment vending business. me and a friend. It was all pretty good in the beginning, we got our start-up capital from a few investors and then found a location and setup shop. That was the best part. We had a great time building out the business and setting up areas for workflow and that kind of thing. Then after we opened the hard realization set in that it would be a long time before we had any real business and had established ourselves a regular clientele. This is when things started go go south. First of all my business partner started to lose interest, he was always off doing things that weren't work related and never really put in the same hours i did. i pretty much ran the whole place by myself, from prep work to dealing with customers. Then the fighting started. We couldn't even maintain hours because of it, i wouldn't show up to open and neither would he (when he was supposed to) and so what customers we could've had we probably ran off by keeping odd hours and openly fighting in front of customers. Once, a customer had to literally break up a fist-fight and call our parents. fuck a lemonade stand, that was the worst week of summer ever.

So don't go into business with friends, i learned that the hard way.

I would recommend going solo. For myself, I always seemed to have problems with having a partner, whether it comes down to who's in charge of what, to what the profits are spent on to more personal problems.

Step 1: ensure the candidates have at least four careers

Not considering going into business with a friend. It's someone I've met through business, that I'm thinking of. Very solid at his job. I sent a project his way. Thinking of collaborating with him on something in the near future to figure out our compatibility/work ethic/etc.

Make sure you meet with them and work with them a lot to see how well you guys work over the long term, under pressure, with incomplete information, etc. Also make sure your long-term goals for the business are similar. It is just like finding someone to marry except pretty different. Thanks.

So do the majority of businesses. I'm not terribly concerned by that. Mine is fine.
