Obviously life of some kind would have developed elsewhere, given the universe's vast size. On the issue of have they been here yet? Can't be sure. The whole abduction/UFO phenomenon has some credibility and is very wide-spread, but that's not concrete proof in itself, so I'm not sure about that.
However, I saw a documentary about how ancient civilisations were able to build things which should have been far beyond their means and level of technology. Alien intervention was the suspected cause. It's an interesting line of thought.

True, I agree that it could just be a mass-trend for explaining strange experiences.
However, the reports of missing time, many reporting seeing lights in the sky around the said missing time episodes and the consistency and sheer outlandishness of what supposed abductees recollect makes me think that there's something to it. I don't see why the psyche would randomly invent such experiences. But again, it could have a mundane cause, the amount of actual physical evidence gathered from this is pretty much nil.

From what we've observed about the universe so far, chances are very high that this planet got incredibly lucky in actually developing what we call life. We really might be a once-in-a-universe kind of event, and that means that humans, as a species, are even that much more lucky to develop the intelligence and sophistication that we have out of this once-in-a-universe opportunity.
Now even if there is a slim chance that life did begin on some other planet, the chances are even slimmer that is lasted on a sustainable level like it has here, even slimmer that it has developed on the level that it has here, and even slimmer still that any sort of intelligent life that we might be able to call "aliens" actually developed. And even if, give the vast amount of space out there, such life similar to ourselves did develop, chances are that they are so far away that we don't have a chance in hell of ever finding the slightest evidence that they actually exist, let alone interact with them. So for all intents and purposes, aliens do not exist.

Aliens could be things like bacteria, any life not originating on Earth really.
Also, even if we never find them that doesn't mean that they don't exist. The chances of some form of life developing elsewhere is very high, such is the universes vastness. There must be other planets in the goldilocks zone and with the right axis position out there, so life could develop there.

Actually, our estimates about when the first life showed up on Earth point to simple life coming just about as soon as the Earth was cool enough to sustain it. While the planet may have "been lucky" in arriving a point where this was possible, this doesn't suggest that life arising was a fluke. It's not as if there is some vast window of a few billions of years where life could have come about and didn't; it seems to have came about just as soon as the conditions permitted.
This is pretty good news for life, as it seems to indicate that its appearance in the universe may be pretty common given the right conditions.
