Thankfully, I don't think that modern capitalism has quite turned out like that.
I read up on communism a little, and apparently Marx expected capitalism to stay on a linear course of carelessly oppressing the workers, whereas what actually came to pass was that societal and economic reforms were introduced to look after the poor a bit more.

Maybe, but modern "Capitalist" countries are actually part Socialist, including the US. And even still in the US, the poor are not well looked-after, and the top 1% control most of the wealth. Many people are wage slaves.

Still, apparently they're well looked after enough to not overthrow the government, like Marx said was supposed to happen. And they've still turned out much better than the attempts at communism.

Oh I agree. I think Socialism is great, and Communism has some good things too.
