it's new. that's it. the next new disney cartoon will eclipse it. just like has happened with all the others.
besides it being new, it's got little to offer. the same music as any of them and the animation and colors were actually quite bleak.
all they'll have to do is make their next movie during not winter time and it'll look so lively and colorful and new by comparison people will proclaim it the best disney movie evar
just like every new disney movie that comes out.
edit: also you can't really use box office earning as a measure of popularity. not only do they rarely account for inflation, they just announce the next big number (of course Fantasia didn't earn 1.2 billion dollars, movies cost 5 cents back then) but pretty much every new blockbuster out earns every previous blockbuster. of course don't expect the marketing people to say that, they'll just say "Frozen is the highest grossing disney movie of all time and is the most popular disney movie evar."

Yeah, see no1cars about princesses who are PoC. All people want to see is Aryan princess movies and maybe the rise of the fourth reich.

no, she's right, movies about indians suck. hollywood always just fucks it all up because they can't really tell the true story. Even the successful HBO show Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was full of errors and exaggerations and lies. it basically got the gist of it, but it's still a fairy tale version of what happened. As bad as they depicted it, it was much worse. But, depicting the cavalry as basically genocidal SS officers under the direction of a bigoted murderer (Andrew Jackson) who's not much better (just less ambitious) than Hitler wouldn't have played well. But, today's American doesn't have the same outlook on "savages" and don't generally have a belief in "subhumans" and most people today can't really wrap their mind around the fact that back then indians just weren't considered human and could be slaughtered like buffalo without a second thought. The reason they weren't taken as slaves is because they couldn't be domesticated, they were too violent. (but let's face it, they were violently resisting capture and slavery, so, yeah they were violent. fuck off.) So pretty much slaughtering them was the only way to deal with ones that refused to move. And that doesn't make for a very good movie. certainly doesn't leave you feeling even remotely hopeful the indians will be okay like BMHaWK tried to do.
So even the demo that might want to watch a movie about indians don't want to watch it because it's a "winner's side of the story" kinda thing and modern indians really reject indoctrination stories and most "histories" on the matter. the real story is about greed, murder, and control, and the US is actually the bad guy. So it's not surprising that Pocahontas did piss poorly, it's an utter fabrication and a general smearing of history, and i don't even have to see it to know that.
I actually meant that it would set you off because it's a "winners view" recounting with lots of sugar-coating and make-believe and just takes liberty with the most recognizable stereotypes of indian culture instead of trying to be even the slightest bit accurate in it's portrayal of anything.
