Well, for one you're supposed to send signals with smoke, not steam, and secondly yeah, steam burns can be pretty painful.

i don't know who anyone is :(

seriously though, i'm on a lot of people's friend lists and i don't know who everyone is. i get lots of random messages and i don't know if they are COD people or WoW people or who.
so next time be like "this is X from minichan" and i'll make a note so i know you're not just random. i don't pay attention behind the screen, and i'm doing other things too so just because i'm online or in a game doesn't mean i see it immediately. i saw late last night someone messaged me about Kerbal, but i was next door watching a movie.
sorry

you can just click on the arrow next to someone's name in friends list, then click add nickname. you can also tag people to group them together. for example i have a "random" tag that i put randoms under so they dont pollute my regular friends list
meh, not really. i tried to get into the new expansion but i couldn't. i played up to the new level cap and got bored real quick of the "max level content." they have just gone nuts with Daily Quests and stupid turn based mini-games and shit.
of course the raids were locked out forever, and they have made it so easy to do it's not even satisfying to just accomplish it. plus they have removed the last vestiges of "required multiplayer" and now everything is so easy to solo it might as well just be a bethesda RPG. there's no reason for it to even be multiplayer now.
but my old wow guild friends still play and try and get me to come back.

ha, i've tried to get them into other games but most are still just into wow. i think a few went on to play WildStar, i was invited to that, but wildstar sucked imo. never did get into any other mmorpgs.
maybe they'll all come play star citizen, but i doubt it becuase of the focus on FPS and hard-core skill based flight simulation. we'll see.

oh, haha. i saw that this morning. sup.
jeb died though. i built a jumbo jet with a rocket plane on top and loaded them up with kerbals. jeb was flying the heavy jet and when i launch the rocket plane and switch control to pilot it into orbit the heavy jet eventually crashes. usually it loses so much weight and the uneven fuel load makes it lurch up and hit the stratosphere. it has ram jets and can breath at 190000m but after it hits 7 or 8 hundred km/h and smacks into the denser atmosphere it heats up and explodes mid air.
pretty sure that's what happened to jeb. either that or he died crashing into the ocean.
but, my rocket plane can go 1500 km/h and halfway orbit the planet. i want orbit, though. i need way more altitude before launch though.

greater good. kerbals happen to be utilitarians.

this is Songbird Mk3-B, a heavy lift version of my most recent jumbo jet.

this is Turkey Trot 7. it looks simple, but it's quite honestly the best handling aircraft i've made yet. it can fly with almost zero thrust, and maintains altitude at under 50km/h. it's nuts. it also changes direction on a dime. doing S-turns when entering the atmosphere also drops your speed to under 200km/h at something like 20km up. it falls like a feather, basically.

the were both built as part of my new Space Plane initiative. Turkey Trot was purpose built to ride on the back of my converted heavy lift jumbo jet. I call it Project Over Flight, and i'm trying to get a "logical" spaceplane to orbit several times and then de-orbit and land back at the kerbal space center. I'm also trying to not use drop tanks or boosters.
so, like i don't think anyone in real life has used this launch method to achieve actual orbit, even LEO. so, it's hard, video game hand-waiving aside.
squeegee septuple-posted this 11 years ago, 2 minutes later, 14 hours after the original post[^][v]#554,335
so far i've made at least a dozen attempts, most just trying to achieve successful separation.
5 flights have broken 100km, but none have come close to orbit.
squeegee octuple-posted this 11 years ago, 3 minutes later, 14 hours after the original post[^][v]#554,339
30 kerbals have easily given their lives in pursuit of Project Overflight.
an unknown number of kerbals have been left stranded around the world after successfully negotiating tricky crash landings and surviving. mission control considers them lost.

however, a small but resolute team of engineers has begun work deigning an emergency rocket powered remote controlled rescue vessel. unfortunately the team mostly consists of interns and a couple of bros from marketing. it looks really cool, but, the functionality is questionable.

it's alright, 36 kerbals gave their life for science. the science of stunt flying jumbo jets.
it's more an art, really.
