Regardless... I think that freedom of the media is very important, and a fundamental part of a free society. So I wouldn't agree with trying to censor things. I do understand their concern at Gamergaters potentially muddying the waters, but I think that Gamergate lost the war a long time ago, so this one battle won't change much.
Also, just from skimming the thread, I can't see any of them actually advocating that it be censored. They're very critical of it, but unless I missed some stuff, I'm not sure why you called them censors and hypocrites. I have seen one report about how it's made gaming look bad in academic circles, though, which is awful.

oh, nobody asked. everyone was actually super uncomfortable, especially the old guys, they didn't know what to think. they didn't know about furries, one guy thought it was a stuffed animal hidden in his pants, you know, like baby's security blanket. He was very confused, and then when we explained furries to him he got mad, actually. we shouldn't have told him. this event is where i get the whole "furries in public are like BDSM people in public" because the whole thing is so very much sexualized. we all had a good laugh afterwards, but it ruined the whole rest of the day. everyone was just talking about the furry. wondering if that tail was a buttplug.

I've already said I'm not worried about gamimg's survival at all. As I said, it'll be fine. I have seen some tangible damage that has been caused because of Gamergate, like the stuff in academia or devs/gaming journalists being harassed. But, long-term, everything should be fine.

i think he was applying for a job in the office. he wouldn't have been looking for technical work because we wouldn't have been hiring then, so i think he was applying to "customer service and 'sales'" or something. he would have been meeting with and talking to clients and attempting to motivate them to do business with us. he also would then be their main go-between when dealing with anyone else, so, he would have been working with every person here and several clients all the time. we couldn't have some guy with a tail representing us and glad-handing potential money-bags.
we actually hired a very nice asian girl who was much less qualified on paper, but she worked out very well and were very sad to lose her when she got married and moved to Austin because her husband's job went there. she was with us for 3 years and could do everything except handle the heavy machines in the shop.

there were a lot of jokes. the big one in the shop is that dangly items and high speed equipment like lathes don't mix, and so we had fun with that. pretty much everyone had their reason for not wanting him around and it all centered around the inappropriate item of clothes he chose to wear. to some, it showed a fundamental decision making problem. to others it was unprofessional period (even though we all wear jeans and shit to work) and to others it was a "hazardous style of dress for a machine shop." i was in the camp of "if he doesn't know that's inappropriate for a job interview then what ELSE doesn't he know is inappropriate?"
but also, the really weird part was the hat and the gloves. it was just all very weird and too over the top. I think i've actually mentioned this on here before, this specific incident, but to me it was the gloves that were the most offputting. The tail, of course, was weird, but the gloves. obviously he was a young guy, very impressionable and inexperienced looking, but the gloves. idk, just SO out of place. the whole getup. the 3 piece suit with cravat or whatever and the hat and gloves. just the whole thing screamed i'm trying SO FUCKING HARD.
i still don't know what it was about the outfit (besides the tail) except it looked like he walked off the stage of some play or something. it was all costumery is what it was. like he was "playing adult" is probably what made it feel so creepy to me. and THEN the tail just proving he's a child in daddy's shoes. like he was mocking us all. idk, fuck that guy, god damned weirdo.
there were a lot of jokes. the big one in the shop is that dangly items and high speed equipment like lathes don't mix, and so we had fun with that. pretty much everyone had their reason for not wanting him around and it all centered around the inappropriate item of clothes he chose to wear. to some, it showed a fundamental decision making problem. to others it was unprofessional period (even though we all wear jeans and shit to work) and to others it was a "hazardous style of dress for a machine shop." i was in the camp of "if he doesn't know that's inappropriate for a job interview then what ELSE doesn't he know is inappropriate?"
but also, the really weird part was the hat and the gloves. it was just all very weird and too over the top. I think i've actually mentioned this on here before, this specific incident, but to me it was the gloves that were the most offputting. The tail, of course, was weird, but the gloves. obviously he was a young guy, very impressionable and inexperienced looking, but the gloves. idk, just SO out of place. the whole getup. the 3 piece suit with cravat or whatever and the hat and gloves. just the whole thing screamed i'm trying SO FUCKING HARD.
