I hate driving because
1) danger of crash
2) other drivers are awful (too long to get into)
Take those away and driving is fun.
I also don't trust a self-driving car that can get hacked or glitch up. The self-driving code might even suddenly crash and it would get me in a IRL crash.
It certainly wouldn't be able to navigate bad drivers as well as a real person. There's 45MPH roads where I live that are totally straight and everyone drives 30MPH and I have to dodge them all. A self-driving car would just get behind them and wait. It wouldn't dodge traffic either to get me faster.
I also don't know how well it'll be able to deal with rain if there's a sharp turn on the freeway and the car starts slipping.

enjoy it while it lasts, once/if self driving vehicles become the norm human drivers will be outlawed eventually for safety reasons, assuming the machines do indeed wind up outperforming us humans

shocker, your car can already get hacked. it already runs an operating system that has access to brake and steering control (if you have power assisted steering, at least). but even simpler than that, someone can cut your brake lines or mess with the engine. physical hacking, pretty much

a firewall wouldnt make sense either because car hacking doesn't happen through ip usually. and your car does not have a public address. bluetooth and the radiowaves used for those wireless unlockers are far more common

it was just an example, every modern car has an electrical/computer system that could technically get hacked. that was the point, but that person seemed to need basic examples for everything

I don't drive at all so I don't really care. Maybe if cars become more sustainable, start using a renewable fuel source, &c. The only reason I want a car at all is for road trips. It's really not necessary to drive in the city, and would cost a lot too.

From what I gather, public transit is really shit in the US?
There's bike lanes on most streets and transit's pretty good here. That and I live a twenty minute walk from campus and two streets away from the best club street.

It's shit where it even exists. Mid-sized Cities may have bus lines but they don't service smaller areas. Only really large cities have subway transportation.
