does anyone have any interesting anecdotes or statistics about the cycle of poverty, minimum wage, etc?

Minimum wage is a social tool to keep lazy greedy blacks in their place

imo, protesting for a $15 minimum wage for fast food jobs is almost counterproductive because people are less likely to take workers seriously. but i do think a minimum wage increase is necessary, it's just unrealistic to demand such a sudden change

Serious question: if raising the minimum wage can fix poverty why stop at $15? Why not $30 or $100 an hour?

yeah, i wrote about the minimum wage once, basically i determined it needed to be raised something like .35 an hour. That would leave (at least full time workers) with many extra hundreds at the end of the year. It also took their income above the poverty line. not very far above it, but above it. or maybe it was like .75 cents to be very generous, i don't really recall. but it's not very much.

unfortunately when people start talking "raising the minimum wage" peopel start thinking their going to start making double their income and shit. not happening. I worked my first job and everyone got like a .15 cent an hour raise at 6 months and then another .25 or something at a year, and people bitched about it constantly. mostly because they lived paycheck-to-paycheck and never had a savings and so they never saw that increase grow into a sum. They'd just see an extra $6 a week and be pissed they got a "six dollar raise", and that's not very many extra tacos. it's actually a 312 dollar raise a year, and back then 312 would have bought me all kinds off cool extra stuff. i learned to save very early on and continue to this day

of course minimum wage is just the minimum, we're talking about starting salaries. it always pissed me off when people claim their minimum wage job can't support their family. it's not supposed to. the fuck you do, start work yesterday? quit complaining! learn a fucking skill.

it's a job type and a pay type that is meant to support 1 person. not 2 people, not 1 person and kids. 1 fucking 18 year old high school dropout is what the minimum wage is meant to provide for. it should be enough to keep 1 person out of poverty, so, the minimum wage should be set such that 1 person working full time is earning at or just above the poverty line.

How is that a serious question?

You might want to investgate Seattle. I heard they made min wage $15 per hour. Before the raise employers claimed they would have to sack people or go out of business, now they claim they can't find people fast enough to hire.
