If you enjoy Civ, there's a good chance you'll enjoy EU4. It's the same sort of basic stuff.
But hey, why not see for yourself? Steam has a demo you can download. But I'd suggest you do the tutorial as well, it helps.

Do you play any video games, Matt? Or have you in the past?
I am guessing not really, somehow.

I like FPS with good stories and great graphics. For example, the most recent game I played fully was Bioshock Infinite. My favorite game ever was the original Half-Life. I also really like multiplayers like Counter-Strike style. I can play those all freaking day. You?

Oh, I like a lot of games. Dragon Age Inquisition and Europa Universalis are two current favourites.
I'm surprised you play those. You've never mentioned liking games.

I know. I think it is because, while in grad school, I had some very dark times, and I associate those times with gaming all night long.

I don't buy Paradox games on principle. I pirated all of their shit.

Because of things like this. Because the vanilla games are bare bones as fuck. I can understand releasing optional shit like unit packs and portraits as dlc, or releasing one or two big expansions, but they release the base as basic as possible and then keep churning out dlc after dlc to make up for it. Even if I ignore the cosmetic stuff, CK2 or EU4 with a few dlcs that could be considered essential still cost as much as two full games.
So you two tards dw and fake anon can keep being smug about it but i'm not going to support this stupid as fuck business model.

I can't speak for CK2, but I can honestly say that none of the EU4 main DLC's have really caught my interest. If anything, I see the DLCs as being kinda bare-bones, they just seem to add a few interesting mechanics but nothing too game-changing. The standalone games are solid, and you obviously enjoy them too if you're pirating them.

Calling EU4 "barebones" is uh...interesting. It is easily one of the most complex strategy games I've ever seen or played. And you do realize they release regular updates that add features to the base game every time they release an expansion pack right? You're just being entitled. "I want them to release a game with lots of content over the course of several years, but I don't want to pay more than $60 total."

If you really wanted to boycott a company, stop playing their shit. This just seems like an excuse because you don't want to pay.

like I said, the tutorial is very helpful in helping you to make sense of things. If you're confused, you should probably go through it.

Same. Doesn't matter how much money I have at the time -- I think I'll always pirate first, buy (maybe) later.
