I actually think it might be better than the Western romanticized Hollywood ideal, that leads to 60% divorce rate and miserable children, but I could be wrong. What do you think about arranged marriage?

It's not a 60% divorce rate. That is not the divorce rate anywhere.

In the US, it is above 50% and approaching 60%.

If it's a political move, I can see it working.
Outside of that it seems really fuckin' shit.

You're being reductionist to imply that the form of marriage is the only factor in divorce rates (assuming that your claims are even accurate, but I'll play along and go with them being at least somewhat higher)
Many cultures with arranged marriages are also quite culturally conservative. So that culture might have more negative views on divorce (which would in turn make people less inclined to divorce), or the country may have stricter laws on divorce.
Anyway, just comparing the two, I am in favour of free marriages. I think that people should be allowed to decide for themselves who they will (in theory) spend their life with.

Yes, because marriage would automatically solve all of your problems.

That is true. In the Philippines, for example, divorce is illegal.

Why don't you go marry the post office if you love it so much?

I once married a post office. She stamped out our love.

Wow, really? That sounds pretty impractical.
@549,194 (Green)
How did you know about my love of the Post Office, which is due to my recent discovery of their allowing me to withdraw any amount of money from my bank account, as well as their deliveries of my Amazon orders?
But allright, I realise that my comment was a little mean. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't look at marriage or a girlfriend as an instant fix for your life.

Try reading some reliable statistics. No one in demography or social science spouts this 50% bullshit. It's just sad MRAs and layabouts dying of cirrhosis in China.

"Rate of divorce" usually refers to the number of divorces that occur in the population during a given period. However it is also used in common parlance to refer to the likelihood of a given marriage ending in divorce (as opposed to the death of a spouse).
In 2002 (latest survey data as of 2012),[17] 29% of first marriages among women aged 15–44 were disrupted (ended in separation, divorce or annulment) within 10 years.[18] Beyond the 10-year window, population survey data is lacking, but forecasts and estimates provide some understanding. It is commonly claimed that half of all marriages in the United States eventually end in divorce, an estimate possibly based on the fact that in any given year, the number of marriages is about twice the number of divorces.[19] Using 1995 data, National Survey of Family Growth forecast in 2002 a 43% chance that first marriages among women aged 15–44 would be disrupted within 15 years.[17] More recently, having spoken with academics and National Survey of Family Growth representatives, PolitiFact.com estimated in 2012 that the lifelong probability of a marriage ending in divorce is 40%–50%.[20]

2014: We've all heard that 50 percent of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce.
And while that disheartening stat continues to get tossed around, the divorce rate isn't really at 50 percent -- and it isn't rising either. In fact, a new piece in the New York Times Upshot suggests that the divorce rate has actually been dropping for some time now. Looking at the numbers, the Times suggests the high divorce rate of the late 1970s and early 1980s may have just been a "historical anomaly," rather than a trend.
Below, a few of the most interesting tidbits from the Times:
About 70 percent of marriages that began in the 1990s reached their 15th anniversary, up from roughly 65 percent of those that began in the 1970s and 1980s. And couples who wed in the 2000s are divorcing at even lower rates.
The fact that people are marrying later in life, resulting in more mature marriages, has helped matters, too. The median age for marriage in the 1950s was 23 for men and 20 for women. In 2004, it rose to 27 for men and 26 for women.
"First-time marriages: probably 20 to 25 percent have ended in divorce on average," Feldhahn revealed. "Now, okay, that's still too high, but it's a whole lot better than what people think it is."
Shaunti and Jeff point out the 50 percent figure came from projections of what researchers thought the divorce rate would become as they watched the divorce numbers rising in the 1970s and early 1980s when states around the nation were passing no-fault divorce laws.
"But the divorce rate has been dropping," Feldhahn said. "We've never hit those numbers. We've never gotten close."

Why not just go to Sudan and buy a female slave? That is, I think, what you're really angling for.

How do arranged marriages work, anyway? Do the two families get together and talk things over, or does one family take the lead in things?

I'm not sure, all the arranged marriages in my family happened long ago and my parents don't really talk about it.
Apparently nowadays it's more of just introducing two kids and they have the choice from then on according to whether they get along or not.

Honestly you're a fucking retard Matt. You hate everything Western for no other reason than that you had every opportunity afforded to you, but managed to squander them all. You fetishize retarded third-world cultures because they have 1) lower taxes, 2) cheaper booze, and 3) women more accepting of misogyny and third world incomes like yours. Yet you still have to make up fake fb girlfriends.
You're an utter cunt and I hate you. Also, you're still wrong about divorce. Thanks.
