I agree completely. I'm always confused when I hear it the other way.

Why have a cute, pronounceable-as-one-word acronym if you don't pronounce it as one word?

Do you pronounce CIA as Seeah and USA as Oosah?

Ummm... No not really. Well, maybe there are some precedents for pronouncing these things... We've been sociality trained by television news media to spout some acronyms in letter form and pronounce others as words. (e.g. FEMA, TARP, NATO, etc.) I have never heard anyone refer to an EU decision as an "Eew decision" yet.

On the whole though, I'm with you in pronouncing FAQ as "Fack". Same here. That's the word that 'I read in my head to myself' when I see "FAQ" on a screen. Always have. Always will. Sometime I will say "F-A-Q" amonst friends who wouldn't immediately understand, but that's pretty rare. (And, no, I'm not going to stop pronouncing GIF with a hard "g" either; I've been doing it for close to two decades now, and I don't give a fuck what the creator of the format thinks.)
