Aw yes! I'm looking forward to this. I loved the first two games, so I'm hoping this'll be more of the same sort of stuff.

Though I wish they'd included the prequel films too, like the first two Battlefronts did. I wanted to fuck up clones as a battle droid.

Some quick Google skimming seems to suggest this too.
I'm glad, I usually preferred to play in the Clone War era in the first two. I just found robots vs clones to be a more interesting fight.

Started playing Battlefront II.
Why is this like the greatest shooter ever made?

yeah... i'm kinda not happy about that, i've been reading and it's looking like EA is cranking out something half-assed and full of DLC.
there's no solo campaign mode
there's no space battles
there's only 8 maps at launch
no galactic conquest
it sounds like it's literally just a reskin of BF4
and since we've seen zero gameplay i wonder if they are doing anything to facilitate better melee combat and if you'll get to play as jedi. surely they are, but i wonder if it'll just be "spam A" to swing and "hold B" to block.
pretty much Star Wars Battlefront is getting my money, it's a game i'm getting for sure, they'd have to fuck it up pretty badly for me to not play a star wars game. I even played KOTOR and enjoyed it and that game was shit. i just kinda hope since they dropped space battles that they do something else that adds something new (and more fun) to the gameplay but i have a feeling it's something that's just been cut leaving us with a reskinned Battlefront 2 clone with less gameplay features. i'll still get it, because the nerd in me demands it, but i'm crossing my fingers they've done more than just reskin Battlefield 4.

Oh dear... I really enjoyed the campaign and Galactic Conquest modes in the older ones, they're what I sunk most of my time into. So then there is a concern this'll more or less be a generic modern shooter game, then. And that definitely wouldn't hold my interest for as long as the first two Battlefronts did. tbh, if they do throw out something totally generic I might not even buy it. But we'll see.
Also, m8, KoTOR was bloody great. I take it you're not so into RPGs? Because KoTOR, as is typical of a BioWare game, was a very good RPG. Had a great story and interesting companions.

i'm sorry, i'm thinking of SW:TOR.
i basically played each character class up to about level 20 or whatever it was that got you past the first long story arc and then drops you into the larger world. it was fun up to a point, but felt pretty generic overall and i lost interest pretty quickly.
Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx replied with this 11 years ago, 2 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#548,771
So this is an odd point, but personally I'm glad they're including the option to play in first person. I enjoyed swapping into first person in Battlefront 2, it made the game more challenging and engaging.
@548,766 (Fake anon !ZkUt8arUCU)
Too innovative, too risky. Sorry.
They need to make it more generic so it'll be more widely appealing.

Yes, nothing is more innovative than recycling features from a 10 year old game. I'm surprised they're even using 3d graphics since that is so new.

I meant that they were things that made Battlefront specifically unique, but have been dropped for this one in a possible attempt to "streamline" things, and make it closer to successful contemporary games of this type.

> They need to make it more generic so it'll be more widely appealing.
generic stuff is a lot easier to knock out quickly than honest to goodness unique mechanics.
if it is a reskin of battlefield 4 then they haven't really been working on it all that long, since late 2013, a little over a year really. they'll have put in 2 years work since BF4 was released. i'm sure that's long enough for a very thorough complete reskin and i'm sure they've scripted plenty of stuff specifically for this game, but i wonder how much it will deviate and if there will be more to it than Team Death Match/Domination game modes.
hopefully the classes will be unique and cool and fun. i loved playing as the jetpack storm trooper guy, but the jedi were awesome. and yeah, i loved the campaign. instant action was fun, but it was always a disorganized mess (pretty much like a Battlefield match) and the campaigns were more objective oriented and that was the most fun, imo

Huh, so according to this, in place of the previous narrative campaigns, Battlefront 3 instead has "a set of short missions" that you can play alone or in co-op. So I'm assuming they'll be something like Modern Warfare's Spec Ops missions.
Which isn't necessarily bad at all. The Spec Ops missions were good. They provided some fun, interesting scenarios to play through. I could see that working well for Battlefront.
(Though I somehow doubt that any of them will have a situation as wacky and interesting as Stromtroopers going up against battle droids and geonosians)

that could be interesting. And the first DLC apparently will be free, and you'll get to play at least as Darth Vader which implies probably other jedi too. So maybe it'll be a fully fleshed out Star Wars game, but still a narrative story would have been cool. but i guess there's movies coming out next year for that.

Agree on the narrative story. The 501st campaign in Battlefront 2 was great. It had really interesting missions like attacking the Jedi temple and invading Kamino.

Forumites! Bad news: AT-ATs are going to be on rails. I hope you didn't find driving around a huge armoured walker of death to be too exciting in those older games, because you won't be able to do it in this modern game.
(This isn't a dealbreaker or anything, but it is disappointing. And possibly an implication that things are being rushed?)
> The deveopers have said you'll be able to pilot AT-ATs, but in this case, I wonder. There was only a narrow stream going through the forest; the broad icy plains of Hoth this was not. Would it really be fun to drive the AT-AT down a narrow corridor, hemmed in by trees? Or perhaps you are simply manning the turret while the vehicle walks an appointed path, and bailing out at the last moment?
> The answer might be found in the name of a new mode: Walker Assault. These are the largest conflicts in Battlefront, hosting a maximum of 40 players, and the name implies that the walker is the focal point of the conflict. Perhaps the Imperial team has to accrue enough points to spawn the walker, and then escort it for a short while so it can use its heavy ordnance to destroy a rebel outpost? The developers are still holding back a lot of details about Battlefront's modes, including how many there are, what they will be, what air battles will look like, and what interplay there will be between air and ground forces.
That's not so bad, but still not as fun as re-enacting Hoth yourself.

Probably not, m8. It's a Star Wars game, riding a wave of nostalgia by being part of a well-loved older series. I've no doubt it'll sell great, my concern is that they'll cut corners or dumb it down too much.
squeegee (OP) replied with this 11 years ago, 1 hour later, 4 days after the original post[^][v]#549,694
i'm not going to listen to speculation. chances are good most of it is just wrong, and there's still plenty of time for the devs to hem it all up. mostly it just looks like they are doing the typical thing where they chop the game into pieces and release some of it as DLC, which means it's possible that (like Fake Anon said) the GOTY edition will be worth waiting for. i think it's getting to be more and more "okay" to release a game early and to "finish it out" with DLC. in my personal opinion, this is because game prices stagnate and float at a number (like 30, 45, or now 60) for years and we're probably at a time now when big AAA games should cost upwards of 90 dollars. I believe that the console game market forces a game to sit at 60 bucks (regardless of quality) or else it risks looking like a rip off. too cheap and it looks worthless. too expensive and it just looks too costly.
so you do 2 things, first you hedge and publish cheap little shit games for 60 AND big expensive AAA games for 60 and it all comes out even in the wash. second you sell big AAA games with DLC which is equivalent to "attaining a full product for several easy payments" which is the shit they pull on TV to make it appear they are selling a product for 49.99, but then you see it's actually 3 easy payments of 49.99
so a game that is $60 with 2 $15 DLC packs gets them to their number (whatever their number is.)
imho games are being price fixed and not allowing a game to sell for a price that is based on the quality of the work being done is actually causing a lot of games to end up being very lackluster upon release.
But, in the case here of Battlefront, i've been eagerly anticipating this game since i first heard about it and i still hope it's going to be a really fun Star Wars game. battlefront 2 is one of my all time favorites, so yes it is going to be hard for them to hit my expectations, especially since some of the things i liked the most apparently aren't in the new game. i loved space battles, i loved zipping around the enemy battleships and entering their hangar and mowing down all the droids and in multiplayer fighting over the engine rooms and shit, and THEN flying off back into space and shooting down some fighters.
i mean there's a lot to live up to, and my real hope is that they cut that kind of stuff for better game modes.
space battles was kinda wonky, the ships were touchy and it was all kinda random, but it was something that i was hoping that they had improved upon in this new iteration. but, we'll see. all i know is that Hoth was fucking epic. everything was fucking epic. so epic i've had to set my expectations to a realistic level for a new release. trouble is, i can watch that new Trailer and SEE that it's not actual gameplay and what they are showing us is a 3 minute long in-engine pre-rendered cut scene. it looked wonderful and i imagine the actual scenes and assets will be equally detailed but it would have been nice to see how it plays.
if that makes any sense.
my plan is still, of course, to buy it day 1
especially if they start leaking gameplay and it looks good and everything sounds "good" about it.
if they never release any gameplay and try to launch as much in secret as they can i'll wait for day 2 and see what the Twitch mob thinks. If there are problems or if it looks like i need to "vote with my wallet" then i'll hold out because if it gets to that point i'll probably be disappointed anyway and growing more and more disinterested.
but, i'm remaining optimistic and i have a fist full of dollars in my hand and i'm ready to fork it over. not pre-order ready, but definitely hopeful and optimistic!
