Topic: Why feminism sucks balls

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #41,079

The majority of women are not feminists and it isn't because they never heard of it or because they don't believe in equality. It is because they are smart enough to recognize that feminism is man hating.

Money is power and no wonder that almost all feminists are upper middle class. This is why women aren't being treated any better, because feminism has a monopoly on women issues.

I hope one day that women will rise up and kill all the feminists.

I hope one day tumblr will stop paying the server bills and SJ will die because the practitioners are all just squatters in their parents homes and can't afford to buy their own hosting.

women are too busy working now to do real feminist stuff. this armchair phoned-in blogging feminism of today is just more background noise. If they want me to pay attention (or anyone for that matter) they need to sum up the whole problem in a 13 episode story arc on netflicks and get get either Kevin Spacey or Matthew McConaughey to star. some hot chicks wouldn't hurt either. you do that, and i might suddenly care about feminism.

The thing that feminists have got wrong, is that you can't change a society of men and women with a womens movement. You have excluded half of the participants.

Feminists need a mens movement more than they need vocal angry menstrual lesbians that want to wage war on men for being men.

We've been over this multiple times...

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskFeminists/comments/2vx7ru/google_poaching_female_engineers_what_should_we_do/

> Feminist: Have you thought about establishing an internship program aimed toward women?
> Apparently CIS scum: Thats grounds for hiring discrimination, we have been told.
> Feminist: That's unfortunate...

And that's a droplet in the sea of feminism... I'm all in for equality, and if I beat you in our profession field, yet you get hired cause you're a girl and the company is chasing quotas, I wanna slaughter someone. But if you're requesting special treatment cause you don't have balls hanging between your tights (both literally and figuratively) I wanna slaughter somebody even before I beat you in our profession field.

I have never spoken to you about this before.

Anyway, what you have provided as evidence is an anecdote. One person's opinion. Meanwhile, there are examples of feminism at large engaging in campaigns that disprove your claim. Firstly, there was the feminist campaign to redefine the FBI's definition of rape. One of their goals in doing this was to have it recognised that men could be raped to. Now why would a feminist organisation want that, if they support inequalities that favour women?

There's also feminists that support women serving in combat roles in the military. That's asking to be put into a position of risk that traditionally only men had to face. So why try to change it?

Look, bud, feminism isn't some monolithic female supremacy movement. It's an ideology with lots of different viewpoints within itself, and many of them truly do want equality.

I think there's legitimate criticisms one could make against feminism, it differs from other civil rights movements because of its selfish nature. It isn't equality so much as it is "women's rights". The first wave of feminists was a group of racists for example, equality wasn't the really the point. And while women's rights are part of equality, and feminism has been a very necessary thing, and there are many brilliant feminists I tend to go for titles like egalitarian instead of feminism, which does have some negativity attached to it.

postmortem !!Qe8ScDbX+ double-posted this 11 years ago, 7 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #546,355

And like it or not Tumblr feminism is feminism now. You can talk all day about how that isn't real feminism, but it is the current image conjured when one says "feminist". To argue against it is the equivalent of someone using a swastika and saying that it has nothing to do with Nazis, that the Nazis bastardized it. They would be right, but it doesn't matter. And instead of spending time trying to get people okay with the term "feminist" people should be more concerned with achieving actual goals. And if using a term other than feminist helps achieve those goals then do it. And honestly I have yet to meet the feminist who isn't making a "statement" by being a feminist

Those aren't anecdotes. Those are organised movements of multiple feminists working together to achieve a goal that is clearly not about maintaining an inequality that favours women. Meanwhile, yours is one woman's opinion that you saw on reddit.

And nah, there's plenty of modern feminists who are just about equality. It's just a generalisation to think that all of feminism has warped into some female supremacy movement.

Why is it that every other person on the chans thinks that Tumblr has taken over everything? The Tumblr boogeyman is fucking everywhere.

Comic book publishers? They bow to Tumblr now. Video game developers? They also answer to Tumblr. Feminism? Tumblr took it over long ago. Tumblr, Tumblr, TUMBLR!

The way the chans are carrying on, you'd think that Tumblr was an all-powerful Illumimati, ready to totally take over society.

Of course there is, but most people don't know that. That's the point. When people hear feminism that's usually what they think of. Right? And so instead of looking to get people into the ideology, why not just work on accomplishing what is actually being set out to do? Feminism has a negative connotation to a lot of people, what really is the point of getting people to accept the term?

Do you think that would come about if everyone was just okay with the term "feminism"?

Notice how if anyone disagrees with feminism, which is an ideology that one can reasonably disagree with, without being against women or equality, feminists immediately pounce, and insult. Is that the response of a group that's really confident in the quality of their idea? Is that an idea that's standing on its own merits? The answer is: No.
