Topic: Smokers of minichan; have you tried e-cigs and vaping?

Green started this discussion 11 years ago #41,067

I have to admit, I am very enthusiastic about the e-cigs I get from Poundworld! When I feel too ill to smoke, these are second to the real McCoy without the negative effects. Plus it's helped me cut down. I used to smoke 5 cigarettes a day! Now I smoke 2-3 (zero if hungover). Also, as a bonus; why does smoking make me feel worse when I'm hungover?

i'm not a huge fan of e-cigs tbh. it feels strange in a way i don't really dig.

that's actually debatable. Turns out the element used in the burner produces high quantities of carcinogenic compounds! also some of the liquids used are very bad for you! like cinnamon which has something in it that kills lung cells or something like that!

plus you can poison yourself by mishandling nicotine liquids and the battery can explode and cause serious burns!

turns out they might not be any healthier than cigarettes and are potentially dangerous in their own right!

no, sorry. what you're talking about is diacetyl and in order for anything inside the liquid to turn into diacetyl you need to vape it super super super hot, hotter than you would be able to inhale and the diacetyl is only found in liquids that contain a "butter flavor" with propylene glycol. Most everyone uses vegetable glycerin now and the whole diacetyl thing stopped being a thing ages ago when people found out about it.

> the burner produces high quantities of carcinogenic compounds!

once again, nah

> plus you can poison yourself by mishandling nicotine liquids

unless you are making your own liquid there is very little to be worried about, yes the liquids are poison but they are not as dangerous as one would believe, the only way you would be able to poison yourself is if you drank a whole bottle of juice

> the battery can explode and cause serious burns!

this is wrong as well, in the event of some sort of mechanical failure inside of your e-cig or mod or whatever you're using the batteries are designed to vent, by the way it is incredibly difficult to make it to this point anyways, and even so if your battery did -not- vent, the heat of the battery would heat up so much that you would be best to just put it down somewhere else, you would have burned your hand long before the battery exploded and its like i said already, its very difficult to even get to this point unless you are using a rebuildable RDA in which case the only way it would happen is if you were a moron and decided to have your leads touching the metal, which mostly never happens anyways because its common sense. And even if you are worried about this happening you can buy whats called a "kick" which is a little chip that goes onto the positive terminal of your battery, what it does is if it experiences any sort of problem (wrong coils/wrong voltage, having your leads touch metal, literally anything else) it will trip the kick and cause the entire unit to shut down and the only way you can get it to turn back on is to physically remove the battery.

basically what im sayin is you dont know shit, but what im also saying is that it is not dangerous at all and is definitely not complicated either, i went from using a disposable ecig to having a mechanical mod and wrapping my own coils within 2 months.

i should also mention that you can buy variable voltage/variable wattage ecigs which are actually even more safer but only in the sense that you cant push it past a specific voltage/wattage but they are pretty shit when it comes to having a mod but different strokes, and its way easier for someone to spend 20 bucks on one of those and a tank for like, another 20 and you'll be totally fine, but usually everyone moves away from these to mods but a lot of it is personal preference, i used to have one of the variable wattage things but i got tired of it because the tank that i bought with it was ultra shitty and wouldn't ever stop leaking (kanger aerotank) but there are loads of other tanks to choose from that wont leak.

Also it definitely helped me quit smoking, why smoke cigarettes that only taste like tobacco or tobacco and menthol when i can get my fix by inhaling good as fuck waffle flavored e-liquid? also its waaaaay fucking cheaper in the long run and i dig making my own coils and fuckin around with mods in general, i am probably going to get another mod with an lcd readout on it next week strictly because it will automatically tell me my resistance/how many ohms im pulling/what watts i am vaping at etc so i can take that to work with me instead of my heavy ass brass mod

you shouldn't just assume they are safe or don't come with their own risks.

also apparently people using ecigs to quit is highly unusual

heres my favorite part of the forbes article:

"The report described what happened when researchers used two different voltage settings on the vaping device. When they tested a tank system at a realistic voltage setting of 3.3V, no formaldehyde — a carcinogen — was detected. But at an unrealistically high temperature setting of 5.0V, formaldehyde concentrations five- to fifteen-fold that of cigarettes were measured. This tells us that when overheated, vaping devices yield unacceptable levels of formaldehyde.

Such news sounds worrisome indeed. But there was no surprise here: the formaldehyde-laden vapor produced at high temperatures would be so noxious and irritating to the airway, that no one would inhale it anyway. There’s nothing “hidden” about it. Implications made in the Journal’s press release regarding elevated cancer risk from e-cigarettes were bogus."

plus loads more links i could get and post.

its obvious that you didn't read my post on the whole "exploding" thing so let me explain it again:

was the guy using the wrong battery for his mod? what type of battery was it? did he know how to properly wrap his own coils or even know the slightest thing about resistance and battery power? etc

there are so many variables that lead to why this guys ecig exploded, to say that it is dangerous based on this is like saying "wow the restaurant i ate at last night gave me food poisoning! BAN ALL RESTAURANTS"

its also obvious that you didn't even bother to read anything in the links you posted so im going to assume you just googled "formaldehyde vaping" and clicked the first link

well, the battery thing has happened more than once, it wasn't just "one guy" i'm talking about but like the whole slew of them i've heard about now.

i could just start posting news links to exploding e-cigs, but i don't actually care, so. enjoy your cancer stick. ;)

I don't get the fuss about batteries. Li-ion batteries just do that sometimes. You can Google and read about people getting burned from smartphones and iPods and laptops when the battery blew up.

My cousin built this scary mod that lets him produce billowing vapor. Its pretty impressive, and slightly dangerous.

This anon knows his shit. From what I've read, it was cheap Chinese batteries that were exploding. And like Metae said, batteries do that sometimes. It's a risk in all electronic devices. It's also non-sequitur, because it just means that some cheaply made devices are dangerous, and says nothing about the danger of inhaling the vapor.
