i've noticed that a lot of self-deprecating humor now is like "everyone's out partying and im home watching netflix :P" or, you know, things along those lines. it's like people are replacing their personality with... trendy netflix introvert culturebut i don't know. it's just something ive noticed from tweets and okcupid profiles

...right, you're just now noticing people doing this? It all started with Newspapers. Everyone used to read newspapers and talk about what was IN the newspaper all the time. Then came Radio. Then TV. ever since then media has basically replaced at least 2/3rds of people's personalities. And these days with games and netflicks and all the options you have for instant media it's only getting worse.

2/3 of the way there. people still talk about current events too much. we'll have reached that point when the only things we talk about are things that have some kind of monetizable value. like celebrity culture and companies who make new breakthroughs in manufacturing more stuff we can consume. "hey, did you hear what happened to J'lo's iPad on the set of her new TV show on the FOX network?"
if it's about, like, politics or human rights or anything that impacts our lives but can't really be bought or sold then it's not really profiting anyone to talk about it.

in 20 more years people won't care enough about current events to profit off it.
we're headed for a digital darkage, bro. instead of a lack of information we'll be completely inundated with so much of it it'll be impossible to sort and we'll rely solely on pre-packaged and semi-digested information. good information will just be a drop in the bucket. just part of the background noise.
it'll take future archaeologists working with supercomputer Ai's to sort and make sense of the coming flood and the crazy shit that'll happen over the next 150 years.
