Of course not. On the other hand thieves must be dealt with.

A small reminder. Once upon a time British Umpire owned lands of USA. India Pakistan & lots of Islands...A very long list of Planet Earth. They did this with rape and pillage of parts of Planet Earth.
They tell everyone they currently own: (All acquired by Rape and Pillage:
Anguilla, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn Islands, Saint Helena (Ascension and Tristan da Cunha), South Georgia (and the South Sandwich Islands), Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia and Coat of arms of the Turks and Caicos Islands.svg Turks and Caicos Islands
They even owned a Queen/King ...Now relegated equal to a Disneyland attraction.
One can argue all day/nite about the British Umpire. Everyone knows ownership is transitory. USA simple said fuck it to Tea and converted to coffee. A few died in this conversion and all is so much more better now.

Let's read a bit closer into history. That Argentinian settlement you refer to came about after Argentina approached a settler called Luis Vernet (who had previously been working with the British government) and made him Governor of the the islands for Argentina. Before that point, the islands had been more or less uninhabited but were still claimed by Britain. So Argentina just came in and took it, effectively. After Britain forcibly reclaimed it, Argentina gave up their claim anyway with the 1850 Convention of Settlement treaty.
Oh, also, the French were actually the first to establish a permanent settlement on the islands. So Britain pretty much just fought other imperial powers over the island.
> To support British ownership after Rape and Pillage is your rite of passage.
If that's how you feel about things, then do you support the USA's taking of native American lands? Some of those were also taken through force or underhand means. Does that mean that you too support "rape and pillage", by your own logic?
Or... We could accept that while the actions of past governments were immoral, they've resulted in present situations where we have populations who have now lived in places for generations, and that forcibly evicting such people now would be equally immoral.

I thought I had made it clear in past posts. USA including recent history. They invaded Iraq with so called intelligence. Weapons of mass destruction did not exist and they took out a very very bad man aka Saddam. Saddam kept things stable and now its a horrid mess. USA does some terrible things. Gets it wrong OFTEN
Bottom line is - I am not a My country rite or rong kinda person. USA needs to make Puerto Rico a state or turn the place over to the natives.
USA Taking of Native American Lands is/was so very very very WRONG. At least here in California with Natives allowed to run profitable Casinos for which many exist in San Diego County - Indians now have some solid cash flow. The reservations they still live on are on land no one wanted and it remains a place no one really wants to live on.

Don't think you can find my saying Brits who live in Falklands should be evicted. They wood make most excellent Argentina Citizens. Okay then, it's good you're not saying they should be kicked out. But neither would they make "good Argentinian citizens", because they voted they didn't want to be. They want to be British. Which isn't surprising, since Argentina haven't exactly endeared themselves to the islanders.
@542,220 (D)
Distance isn't a valid reason to claim ownership of something. And it can be justified with the fact that the people there want to be British, and that the UK has the most valid claim on the island.

As I said, Argentina did exactly that when they first went for the island. The only difference is that they did so whilst the islands were still claimed by somebody else. By your logic. The Argentinians are no better. Just more imperialists.
And I think it should stay British because the people who have lives there want to remain so.
@542,227 (Metæ)
They do have oil, actually. But this all kicked off beforehand.
As to why we don't just sell it, well, Argentina tried to seize the islands by force not too long ago. We beat them off, because we can't really just let a foreign power invade our territory on a whim. And after that, there'd probably be outrage if the government just sold the islands off to the Argies.
But also oil.

KL I consider you a level headed UK dude who means well. And your replies have been respectful on this subject. You are honest to say the take over really is UK Imperialism.
I did a quick search for a Map of UK vs California for comparison. Considering how Great Britain along with France Spain Italy Portugal - Each fought tooth and nail to dominate Planet Earth.
So now in general terms UK is on a quest as with Scotland to hold on to future major oil reserves. Falklands is UK's best bet for a world class ocean grab of Oil.
UK is now a postage stamp size by comparison to wot it once was. Holding on to the Rock of Gibraltar? Where is the common sense in that?
Oh and if anyone dares think I am trying to put down UK on basis of compare to California. Least it be forgotten USA owns Calif New Mexico and Texas on the basis of a War. France at least sold land to USA just like Russia did for USA to take over Alaska.
Mexico is getting back at loss of the war by internal Latinos growing in mass - One day when they learn to vote then They will own the states again.

True and based on cost of holding on vs wot everyone knows will end up again in a bloody war. Spending cold hard cash for 12 Russian long range bombers is a very expensive move on Argentina part.
I should point out California GDP California 1,958,904 vs UK United Kingdom 2,475,782 2012 numbers. with amounts in USA dollars. Calif is fighting to hold on to water and is making it hard on oil producers. UK now as small as it is - fighting to have some relevance in world economy so it seems that is Oil and not much more.
At least we both agree its all about Imperialism and Oil. Ok sure and the fact that current population Brits planted on Falklands did vote to remain Brits. Everyone I know agrees blood will again flow.
