Rey Mysterio, Jr., known to WWE fans as simply Rey Mysterio recently returned to the lucha libre circuit in Mexico where one of his first matches ended in tragedy as his opponent El Hijo del Perro Aguayo dies in the ring.
He is seen losing consciousnesses while on the ropes and he was taken to the hospital where he was proclaimed dead.
Here is the video of the match. Rey did kick the man a couple of times, once from the corner as he was running and again to set him up on the ropes to do his signature "619" move which connected to Perro's tag team partner but bypassed him entirely.
My guess was that one of the kicks was a little too hard than originally intended. Now Rey is possibly being charged with manslaughter.

Why would he be charged with any crime? I mean, wrestling carries a high risk of injury and the participants participate with informed consent about it, right? It seems more like a tragic accident than any malicious act.

It is no schtick. I simply respect wrestling as a sport that is willing to celebrate homosexuality. It is literally and entire sport about being gay, and it does this in a country where being homophobic is a popular way for politicians to gain support.
I do not understand why you protest. As a wrestling fan you should know all of this.

Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, known as "Hijo del Perro Aguayo" was thrown on to the ropes after a kick from Oscar Gutierrez, known as "Rey Misterio Jr". The match in Tijuana continued for several minutes before anyone realised that Aguayo was not moving. He was rushed to hospital but died early on Saturday morning. An investigation has been opened.
The cause of death is still unclear but local media report that he suffered cervical spine trauma. The state prosecutor's office has said it is looking into possible manslaughter.
I can't find anything that says anyone is being charged, just that they are considering charges and opening an investigation. There could be some questions about why the other guy kept going and didn't stop the match. There are also some questions about why the doctor who was supposed to be present ringside was not there. If I were the police, then given the circumstances I'd feel I should probably at least ask a few questions.
I agree that it seems more like a stupid tragic accident than a crime, but it might be better to be on the safe side and at least poke around to make sure.

Not sure, but Wikipedia has some information about the cause of death.
According to the initial announcement from the hospital, Aguayo died from a cervical spine trauma, reportedly as a result of the dropkick by Mysterio Jr. that propelled him forward to the ring ropes, causing severe whiplash trauma that snapped his neck. The cause of death was later announced as cardiac arrest, due to a cervical stroke caused by three fractured vertebrae. Autopsy results showed that Aguayo Jr. broke his C1, C2, and C3 vertebrae. The coroner stated that the fractures took place at two different moments of impact and that Aguayo died almost instantly. Aguayo Jr. was not immediately attended to by a physician and was actually taken from the ring on a piece of plywood instead of a stretcher, which led to some criticism of the event organizers. However, the coroner stated that it made no difference. The Tijuana wrestling commission later explained that the doctor was backstage, attending to two other injuries that happened during the show. One of those injuries was a spinal injury and they did not want to remove that wrestler from the stretcher he was on, which was why they used the plywood to move Aguayo from the ring. The doctors worked on resuscitating Aguayo for over an hour before declaring him dead. On March 21, the attorney general for Baja California announced that they would conduct an investigation into the death of Aguayo Jr. to determine if there was a possibility of criminal charges being filed. Aguayo Jr. was buried in Guadalajara on March 23 with Konnan and Rey Mysterio Jr. serving as pallbearers. After his death, the Comisión de Deporte del Senado del México (The Commission of Sport of the Mexican Senate) presented the initiative "Ley para la Seguridad del Deporte en el País" (Law for the Safety of Sport in the Country").

The police charging someone isn't an indication of guilt to that crime. It just means it is plausible. Your question is going to be answered at trial, where it ought to be decided.

There possibly isn't a trial since the death was caused by injury. Although those injuries where caused by a dropkick by Rey Mysterio, Jr., but he probably didn't know he hit him that hard or had any prior health risks. Can he still be charged for that?
